Super Bowl Prop Bets to Ponder: Player to Score First Touch Down

When it comes to Super Bowl prop bets, among the most popular is the player to score the first touchdown.

The favorite at betED.com is No Touchdown Scored, which we at Gambling911.com find difficult to believe when talking about a Super Bowl featuring the high powered offenses of New Orleans and Indianapolis.   This bet pays $45 for every $10 wagered.

Joseph Addai of the Colts pays $50 for every $10 bet while Pierre Thomas of the Saints would pay out $55.

Addai was selected in the first round (30th Overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Colts and he is now one of the team's bona fide stars.  He appeared in a Super Bowl his first year with the Colts, a Super Bowl they would go on to win.

Addai spoke during a news conference this past week of what it was like in his Super Bowl XLI experience three years ago, at the end of his rookie year: "A lot, lot of distractions. I think the team that can minimize that will be better off. You have to take a lot of things into consideration. You have family that wants to share that moment with you, you have fans who want to share that moment with you, but they don't understand. For me, (the hoopla surrounding the) Super Bowl is for everybody except the two teams playing in the actual game. If we go into it like that, our situation will be better."

Thomas excellent play was critical in helping the Saints advance to the Super Bowl with the win over the Vikings in Sunday's NFC Championship game. Thomas rushed 14 times for 61 yards and caught two passes for 38 yards. He scored in the first quarter on a 38-yard screen pass and again in the third on a nine-yard run.

Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark had the next shortest odds as player to score the first touchdown, respectively.  Wayne pays $60 for every $10 bet while Clark would pay $65.

Which player will score the 1st touchdown in Sunday's NO vs. IND game?

NFL betting used to be built mostly around teams. Bettors looked at spreads, totals, moneylines, injuries, weather and coaching matchups. Those pieces are still there, but the modern football betting board is much more player-driven than it used to be.
