Super Bowl 44 Betting: Which Team Has The Edge?
When it comes to Super Bowl 44 betting it is good to know that the favorite (the team supposedly having the edge) has won all but two of the last eleven past Super Bowl games. This doesn't mean they necessarily cover. It actually would make some sense betting the -200 moneyline at BetUS.com. In this case, a $100 bet would pay out $50 (and the $100 is refunded should the Colts win outright). The risk/reward is a tough hump to get over but recent past history suggests it's a sensible play, especially since the favorites of Super Bowl 44 are led by the one and only Peyton Manning.
As for the cover, too many recent Super Bowls have concluded with a 3 point win. This is why the moneyline seems like the "safer" bet.
As for which team has the edge in Super Bowl 44, that is an easy one.
Al Simmons of BetUS.com:
"Everyone knows Peyton Manning is the best player for the Colts, whatever he does will affect the job of the rest of the team, either good or bad.
"Manning has the ability of winning ball games by himself, he probably already knows every tendency about the Saints defense and is looking to new ways to make them pay.
"Another strength about the Colts attach to Manning are the receivers and I'm not talking about the well known Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark who obviously are an advantage; but I'm talking about Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie.
"Collie has been money in the bank when he is in a slot position line against a linebacker, which is something the Saints need to avoid, because Manning and Collie will make them pay.
"On defense, Robert Mathis will be the guy who need to worry the Saints defensive line considering Dwight Freeney might not be fully recover.
"If Mathis can beat the Saints protection line then he can make some turnovers that will definitely help the Colts in the game. Don't forget about Gary Brackett or Antoine Bethea, both are playmakers that need to step up if Freeney can make it on Sunday.
"Another strong point about Indy is the experience, something that you can't buy in the market. Many of them have been here before and they also know how to win the Super Bowl, which is a big plus."
Super Bowl 44 betting has been influenced by the prospect that Colt's player Dwight Freeney may not play or - at the very least - won't be at 100 percent.
Simmons writes of the Freeney situation:
"The lost of Freeney on defense make the Colts weaker in every aspect of the game. If you think about it, with Freeney out Robert Mathis will get the double coverage and the pass rushing will not be the same at all.
"That will give Drew Brees more time to find open receivers and make the Indianapolis Colts pay against one of the best passing teams in the NFL."
Another concern for Colts backers is their running game, or lack there of.
