Gambling911.com reported its highest traffic numbers in its nearly 10 years on the Web Sunday as Super Bowl betting took center stage.  The site dominated in Super Bowl related searches at both Google and Bing.com during much of Sunday and the days leading up to the big game.

Just over 76,000 unique visitors were recorded to the website.  A total of just over 1 million page views and 2.7 million hits, all from articles.  The site shut down its interactive features (the comments) as a means of helping to conserve bandwidth and improve load factor.

"Traffic was up a whopping 40 percent from last year's Super Bowl, and that's with even stiffer competition," Gambling911.com Senior Editor, Payton O'Brien, disclosed Wednesday.

Las Vegas also enjoyed brisk numbers, winning nearly $6.9 million on roughly $82.7 million worth of bettor's money.

The winnings were $179,000 more than sportsbooks took in last year, which produced $1.21 million of more action.

"We thought the Super Bowl was a great measuring stick of the economy and we think the economy is just a little better than what it was last year," Jay Kornegay, executive director of the race and sportsbook at the Las Vegas Hilton, told the Associated Press.

Kornegay said that an East Coast winter storm prevented many potential Super Bowl bettors from making it to Vegas over the weekend.
