Pete Carroll has reportedly agreed to coach the Las Vegas Raiders.  His odds were set at -250 to fill that coaching vacancy.

Details of the deal have Carroll coming on board as part of a three-year deal with a fourth-year team option, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Carroll, who turns 74 on Sept. 15, is one of four head coaches to have led teams to both a college football national championship and the Super Bowl. The others are Barry Switzer, Jimmy Johnson and Jim Harbaugh.

Carroll will also be the Raiders' fifth coach, including interim coaches, since the franchise moved to Las Vegas from Oakland in 2020.

Carroll represents stability and experience for a team needing both.  He is widely expected to mesh well with first-time general manager John Spytek, who was finalizing a deal to join Las Vegas earlier in the week.

NFL head coaching job betting markets have proven a hit with gamblers during the month of January.

Carroll was in fact seeing heavy search activity over the past 24 hours.  16% of those searching for Carroll's Raiders coaching odds were ending up on the Gambling911.com website.

Pete Hegseth Nomination to Defense Secretary Expected

he Republican-controlled Senate on Friday night is expected to vote on whether to confirm Pete Hegseth, President Donald Trump’s controversial pick for defense secretary.

The vote will likely be extremely tight. On Thursday, Hegseth’s nomination narrowly cleared a key procedural hurdle 51 to 49, with two Republicans — moderate Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine — voting with all Democrats against him.

It would take four Republicans voting against Hegseth to reject the nomination, though Trump allies in the Senate expressed confidence he would be confirmed, and no other Republicans have signaled they will vote against him Friday.

Hegseth has been favored to be nominated throughout the month of January.
