He was a man of the Jewish faith and, while cremation is not commonly permitted, EOG.com founder Kenneth Weitzner will be cremated along with his wife following a memorial on Tuesday. Weitzner's wife, Jackie, was not Jewish. Both were discovered early Saturday morning in what police are ruling as a double suicide.
The online gambling sector remained in shock on Monday despite any ill will many had towards Weitzner. Nearly everyone who spoke to Gambling911.com expressed sympathy for his wife.
"If Ken took his own life because of gambling debts as the rumors are suggesting, how is it possible he got his wife to go along with him," asked one industry observer who wished not to be identified.
Gambling911.com's own Thomas Somach confirmed late Monday that there was little likelihood of foul play, though fluid samples had been taken at the scene and will be analyzed over the next couple of days. An autopsy will not take place. The bodies will immediately be cremated following the service per the wife's family's request.
Throughout much of the weekend, many observers believed the reports of the Weitzners deaths to be fake. Initial reports confirming the deaths had pills and carbon monoxide as the cause of death though that is yet to be confirmed.
In the past, before air-quality regulations and catalytic converters, suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning would often be achieved by running a car's engine in a closed space such as a garage, or by redirecting a running car's exhaust back inside the cabin with a hose. Motor car exhaust may have contained up to 25% carbon monoxide. However, catalytic converters found on all modern automobiles eliminate over 99% of carbon monoxide produced, therefore the likelihood of using such a method to commit suicide is very low.
Drugs taken orally may also be vomited back out before being absorbed. Considering the very high doses needed, vomiting or losing consciousness before taking enough of the active agent is often a major problem for people attempting this.
Weitzner founded therx.com during the mid-90's. He sold the online gambling news and forum portal for just over $2 million in 2004 and started another similar website Eye On Gambling or EOG.com.
