The Preakness Stakes 2010 post positions will be announced at 5 pm EST today (Wednesday).

It appears as if 13 horses will be entered in this Saturday's race.  Compare that with the 20 horses entered in the Kentucky Derby nearly two weeks ago and today's post position announcements won't be nearly as critical.

"In the Kentucky Derby, there were five or six speed horses (ones that wanted to get out front early)," said Ike Thrash, who co-owns Hurricane Ike (+1000 odds). "There may be no speed horses in the Preakness. Because of the pace, with no speed horses, we would prefer not to be No. 14 or 1. We would like 5, 6, 7 or 8 if possible. But if we got second or third, we'd be perfectly happy."

Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver comes in with the potential to pay out $25 for every $10 bet at Sports Interaction.com.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
