Preakness Stakes 2010 Predictions

Gambling911.com Preakness Stakes 2010 predictions honed in on one horse:  The favorite, Super Saver.

Super Saver and jockey Calvin Borel should be on or near the lead since there will not be a pacesetter per say at this Saturday's Preakness Stakes race.

Calvin Borel has predicted that Super Saver will win the Triple Crown.

"The colt is peaking right now at the right time," Borel said after the race. "This colt might just get better."

Last year, Borel won the Preakness aboard filly Rachel Alexandra, beating Mine That Bird, whom he rode to victory in the Derby.  Borel's May 1 Derby win was his third in four consecutive races.

"We're going to win the Triple Crown this year," he said.

Super Saver would pay out $70 for every $10 bet at Bookmaker.com (the oldest established North American facing sportsbook online) should he win the Triple Crown, and Gambling911.com now believes the chances are good.

Super Saver was a slight favorite in early Preakness Stakes betting.

With $126,351 in the win pool at Pimlico and Laurel as of 6:40 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Super Saver and Lookin At Lucky were both 9-5. However, Super Saver was $1.80-1 while Lookin At Lucky was $1.90-1, according to Maryland officials.

Some pundits believe that Derby favorite Lookin At Lucky has the better shot of winning.

Paddy O'prado is also seen as "improving".  He finished 3rd in the Derby.  Gambling911.com's Kentucky Derby predictions had Paddy O'prado winning, and he nearly did.

An interesting little factoid when making your own Preakness Stakes 2010 predictions: Since 2000, of the 30 Preakness trifecta slots, 23 have been filled by horses that raced in Kentucky in their prior start.

Scott Finley of USA Today:

"From a statistical and historical perspective, Super Saver appears to be the logical choice. Yet while the Derby winner should run well, Lookin At Lucky is given one last chance to put together a top performance and is the selection to win the 2010 Preakness.

"Derby watchers knew 200 yards into the race that Lookin At Lucky could not win. Bumped, crowded, slammed into the rail and shuffled back more than 20 lengths, Lucky lost all chance in the Derby and did well to finish sixth. To improve his luck, trainer Bob Baffert decided it was time for a change. Sharp young jockey Martin Garcia will have the mount on Lookin At Lucky."
