WSOP Reporter Voice Mail to “Racist” Poker Pro: “I Don’t Give A F***!”
"A Mexican, a Jew and a colored fellow walk into a bar... The bartender looks up and says... Get the **** out of here".
This remark, uttered by VictoryPoker.com pro Dan Bilzeria has landed him and the online poker room he represents in some hot water with a powerful person covering the World Series of Poker (WSOP), which airs exclusively on ESPN, more specifically one Joy Miller, a poker reporter for the network, who has advised the CEO of Victory Poker that she will not be featuring any coverage of Victory Poker pros during the World Series of Poker until Bilzeria apologizes. Miller is the poker equivalent of Gretta van Sustern. ESPN advised Gambling911.com that Ms. Miller is neither employed by the cable sports network or speaks for their company.
Bilzeria insists he was simply quoting Clint Eastwood from the film Gran Torino when he made the offensive Tweet that Miller took offense to.
Imagine for a moment if I, someone from India, were to make a blasphemous quote about the prophet Muhammad, then later claimed I was simply quoting a Southpark episode?
Come on Bilzeria, where is your noodle?
Quoting Gran Torino is a pretty lame excuse considering the film focuses heavily on negative ethnic stereotypes and even features a rape by young Hispanic gang bangers seeking revenge.
Miller said in a voice mail to Bilzeria that she "did not give a f*** if the quote was from a movie" and objected to the word "colored" (listen to the voice mail from Ms. Miller here). It is Miller's job to keep people of Bilzeria's ilk restrained and prevented from spewing bigoted hate-filled commentary.
Bilzeria defended the use of the word by referring to the NAACP as standing for the National Association for Advancement of Colored People.
Bilzeria is not the first professional poker player to upset countless numbers of people with racially insensitive remarks.
Our own ace crime reporter, Thomas Somach, reported on how Daniel Negreanu discussed "double standards" involving people of color and Caucasians. Specifically he lashed out at the idea that there was a cable television station specifically for African Americans and how the White man would never get away with such a thing, certainly not in 2010.
This past week Viking poker pro and regular poster child for PMS (maybe Ms. Miller fits the bill too after listening to that voice message), Annette Obrestad, got herself a few tongue lashings by degrading an entire sex of humanity, the female, saying "Girls all suck at poker". Gambling911.com has attempted to quell the angry responses through its fair and balanced reporting. The angry wench also went on to attack a respected elderly poker pro, Doyle Brunson.
Tensions are running high these days with countless number of illegal Mexicans crossing the border into Arizona and increased fears of racial profiling becoming routine.
