Annette Obrestad WSOP

To date, Norwegian poke superstar Annette Obrestad has not had much luck at the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP).  That is all about to change.

From Cake Poker:  "One of the biggest stories poker fans were watching coming into the 2010 World Series of Poker was how Annette Obrestad would fare in her first stateside WSOP. Obrestad, of course, won her first bracelet at the tender age of 18 when she conquered the inaugural WSOP Europe Main Event in 2007. But American gambling laws meant that she was ineligible to play in Las Vegas until this year, after she turned 21.

"The Series has been mostly disappointing for Oberstad up to this point, with just two cashes for slightly more than $15,000 to her credit. But today she has her first big chance to turn that all around in Event #39, the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout, where she has advanced to the final day of play. Most of the time shootouts are played in a single-table format. But because there were 1,397 entrants, 140 players survived Day 1 and 14 survived Day 2; as a result, the final table this event will begin as two seven-handed tables before collapsing to a single table to play down to a winner."

The first player out today will earn $6,940, with payouts scaling up at every elimination all the way to $381,922 for the winner.

Play resumes at 5:30 pm EST.
