2010 World Series of Poker Main Event Will Pay $9 Million Plus

The 2010 World Series of Poker main event will pay the second biggest prize ever.  $9 million will go to whomever wins the event, the final to be played out in November.  All of those whom will be participating in the final will walk away with a minimum of $1 million. 

Not since the WSOP peak in 2006 have there been more attendees at the main event.  Following Jamie Gold's $12 million plus win, new legislation in the US made it difficult to play poker on the Web.  There were also significantly fewer satellites allowing players in with nominal or no risk at all. 

More than 2,300 players entered the no-limit Texas Hold 'em tournament Thursday on the last day to buy in for $10,000.  Last year's final day could not hold the number of people looking to take part.  Hundreds of people were turned away at the door include pro Patrik Antonius. 

This year's WSOP will see a double-digit percentage increase in entrants compared with last year.

It didn't take long for former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith and tournament poker professional Phil Gordon to bust out their first day of play Thursday.
