Who would have known that online poker in France was so popular, especially being that, up until recently, it was pretty much illegal.

A review of the online poker traffic monitoring website PokerScout.com demonstrates that the French market is stronger than ever.

Let’s take a look.

PokerStars French online poker room ranked as the most dominant this week, coming in at number 9 globally.  They were averaging 1280 “real cash” players over the past 7 days.

EverestPoker.fr had 850 average “real cash” players.

OnGame.fr had 650 average “real cash” players.

As Gambling911.com revealed this past weekend, the French customer base for these online poker rooms is greater than the whole of Bodog Poker, which has been relegated to the number 21 position, down from number 16 just 6 months ago.  It will fall further as Full Tilt Poker just received its French license.

Full Tilt Poker and PKR are the latest online poker ventures to obtain licenses in France.  That nation granted nine new licenses on Monday.

France had previously banned outside entities from offering online poker to its citizens.
