Champions League 2023/24: La Liga Teams Betting Update
Four of La Liga’s five Champions League representatives are well placed to make progress in the competition after the completion of the fourth round of group matches.
Real Madrid are at the forefront of the Spanish bid to lift the trophy after booking their place in the last-16 with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Braga at the Bernabeu Stadium.
Read on as we look at how Madrid’s performances have impacted the outright betting market, before assessing whether any of the La Liga teams can win the Champions League this season.
Bookies Take Evasive Action After Latest Madrid Romp
Madrid were rated by several online bookmakers as 11.00 shots to be crowned European champions for the 15th time before the group stage got underway.
Victories over Union Berlin and Napoli put Madrid in control of Group C and they have subsequently hammered home their superiority with two successive victories over Braga.
Their most recent performance against the Portuguese side resulted in some European bookies cutting Madrid into 6.00 to win the Champions League. Intriguingly, several operators in the Asian market are still offering odds of 7.50, which will likely attract plenty of interest in countries where Madrid has a sizeable international fanbase.
They include M88, an online gaming brand sponsoring La Liga, which is tapping into Vietnam's soaring football fandom and bringing the excitement of Spanish football closer to Asian fans. Through strategic marketing, M88 enhances the local viewing experience with exclusive match events and digital campaigns.
Their partnership with La Liga not only boosts M88's brand presence in Vietnam but also fuels the growing passion for football in the country. This collaboration could potentially inspire and support the development of local Vietnamese football talent.
M88’s engagement in Vietnam exemplifies how sports sponsorships can blend entertainment with cultural and developmental impacts. The company’s more competitive Champions League odds on Madrid further demonstrates their commitment to offering Vietnamese fans top-class service.
Their stance may result in punters securing a bumper payout next June, with Madrid strongly fancied to be one of the main contenders to get their hands on the prestigious trophy.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side is packed with talented players and they have the ability to beat any other team in the competition. They include midfielder Jude Bellingham, who has been the star of the show for Madrid since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund during the summer. The England star has drawn comparisons with Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane – which is high praise considering what he achieved with the club. With Bellingham pulling the strings in the middle of the park, it would be a brave move to back against Madrid enhancing their already stellar record in the Champions League.
Atletico Could be Troublesome in the Champions League
Online bookies rate Barcelona as sixth favourites to win the Champions League behind Man City, Bayern, Madrid, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. However, punters are unlikely to be falling over themselves to wager on Barca at odds of 17.00 given the manner of their recent performances in UEFA’s top club competition.
They romped home against Royal Antwerp in the opening game in Group H, before recording unconvincing victories over Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk in their next two outings. Barcelona then missed out on the becoming the first side to reach the knockout stage after losing 1-0 in the reverse fixture against Shakhtar.
Danylo Sikan scored the game's only goal, while Newerton had a late effort ruled out for offside. The Spanish outfit had plenty of possession during the game, but they failed to create many clear-cut chances against the Ukrainian champions.
While Barca should still reach the last-16, they do not appeal as likely winners of the competition. By contrast, Atletico Madrid could prove to be troublesome as the Champions League progresses after going unbeaten in their four Group E games.
Atletico started their campaign with a draw at Lazio, before recording a home win against Feyenoord. They drew at Celtic in their third outing, before producing a dominant display in a 6-0 home victory over the same opponents. The La Liga side were ruthless against the reigning Scottish Premiership champions and will be a tough nut to crack this season, particularly at the Metropolitano Stadium.
While Atletico may not lift the trophy, odds of 21.00 may attract interest from each-way punters. Real Sociedad have been a surprise package in this season’s Champions League, collecting ten points from four games in Group D to book their place in the last-16. Sociedad were hugely impressive in their most recent outing against Benfica, but it would be a surprise if they were able to compete with Europe’s big-hitters when the knockout stage starts.
Sevilla are La Liga’s final representative in the Champions League and are in danger of exiting the competition after picking up just two points in four games in Group B. They face PSV Eindhoven (H) and Lens (A) in their final two matches and will find it tough to force their way into the knockout stage of the competition.
