Sochi Winter Olympics Betting Odds: Men’s Ice Hockey has Canada slightly favore

Sochi Winter Olympics betting odds were available at BetOnline with one of the bigger events being the Men’s Ice Hockey competition and Canada only a slight favorite over Russia.

BetOnline

Canada pays 2/1 odds.  BetOnline noted:  “With Roberto Luongo in goal and playing well, and Sidney Crosby out there scoring goals, the Canadians are going to be an extremely difficult team to beat.”

With the Winter Olympics taking place in Sochi, Russia, it’s hard to deny Team Russia as a +225 favorite, paying only slightly more than Team Canada should they take home the trophy.

BetOnline notes the Russian vulnerabilities:  “Goaltending for the Russians may be stronger that most people think with Semyon Varlamov backing up starter Sergei Bobrovsky. But both of these goalies are unproven in international play and that could be a factor when the tournament begins.”

Sweden comes in at 4/1 odds.

BetOnline writes: “This Swedish team has a nasty edge to them that previous teams have not had and that could be a big factor in determining if this team wins gold or not.”

And finally we have Team USA at 6-1 odds.  Not surprisingly, with BetOnline catering more heavily to US clients, the amount of action flowing in has been skewed towards USA at close to 50 percent.

The BetOnline verdict:  “There is a feeling among odds makers that Team USA just does not have the players it needs to push past Canada for the gold. In 2010, the Americans were one overtime goal away from winning the gold but Sidney Crosby dashed the hopes of Team USA with the overtime winner. This time, the high-flying Canadians may be a little too much for the gritty Americans to handle.”

Sweden probably has the best value at 4/1 odds but beating Team Canada will be a tough task for certain.
