Another Guilty Plea In Maryland Online Poker Investigation

Another individual has plead guilty in an expansive Internet gambling investigation being conducted by the US Attorney’s Office out of Baltimore, Maryland.

Martin Loftus from California, plead guilty to one count of money laundering on behalf of online poker operations.  Like his colleague James Davitt, Loftus has agreed to cooperate with federal authorities in both Maryland and New York.

Ernie Scherer Murder Trial Focuses on the Bloody Crime Scene

The murder trial of Ernie Scherer III continued this week with a focus on the bloody crime scene.  

Scherer III is on trial for the March 2008 brutal murder of his parents Ernest Scherer Jr., 60, and Charlene Abendroth, 57, in their Castlewood, California home.  Prosecutors allege that the younger Scherer, a poker player, owed substantial gambling debts and bludgeoned the couple in order to obtain a $1.5 million inheritance.  The elder Scherer had previously refused a loan to Ernie.

United Kingdom Cracks Down On Internet Poker

With addiction fears mounting, the United Kingdom has vowed to begin a crackdown on foreign Internet poker rooms, or those not licensed directly by the UK government.

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt is planning to stop companies based overseas from advertising in the country, according to the Daily Mail.  Hunt also wants to prevent gamblers from using their credit cards to bet with money they do not currently have.

Croatian poker babe Tatjana Pasalic reacted to being voted “Sexiest Poker Player of 2010” by the readers of Gambling911.com.

“Aww that is really cool,” Ms. Pasalic told Gambling911.com Senior International Correspondent Jenny Woo.  “I am happy about that, it means that I am keeping myself interesting and fun and that is what (it) is all about. If the Readers say thumbs up, that’s the best award one can get.”

Viktor Blom Owes More In Taxes Than Some Small Nations Deficits

The IRS won’t be after online poker phenom Viktor Blom, who was last week revealed to be Isildur1.  He’s Swedish.

Unfortunately that could be a whole lot worse.

According to the newly released report, there is a very real possibility that Blom can expect a visit, and soon, from the Skatteverket, the Swedish version of the Internal Revenue Service.
