2006 WSOP Champ Jamie Gold to Hunt Ghosts on TV

Poker players have been known to get spooked by a bad beat, but this is ridiculous!

2006 World Series of Poker Main Event winner Jamie Gold is to star in an episode of the reality TV show "Ghost Adventures," it was revealed.

The episode will be the popular program's series finale and is to air at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, April 27, 2012, on the Travel Channel, an American cable TV network, the show announced.

On the show, the ornery Gold and other celebrities will hunt for ghosts at Vegas' famed Riviera hotel and casino, which according to legend is haunted.

Gold, who heretofore has no known connection to spooks or ghost busting, is the most controversial winner of the WSOP Main Event in recent years.

He is best known for winning the largest WSOP Main Event prize in history--$12 million--and then getting sued by a man who claimed Gold reneged on a promise to split his winnings as part of a complicated sponsorship deal.

The case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount said to be $4 million.

Gold, who claims to be a TV producer but has no known TV credits, was also a paid spokesman for online poker room Bodog Poker until the room canned him due to the bad publicity generated by the lawsuit.

In another controversy, Gold later admitted to the New York Times in an interview that he had cheated during the WSOP Main Event.

The WSOP took no action against Gold but warned him his offenses, such as revealing one hole card after a hand, would not be tolerated in the future.

Most recently, Gold earlier this year inked a deal with the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for the facility's poker room to be named the Jamie Gold Poker Room and for him to play there, but the room reportedly was shut down after just one month due to lack of interest from the public.

Sensing a flagging career, is Gold's  transition--albeit temporary--from poker pro to ghostbuster a desperation move to generate publicty?

Looks like!

According to a press release from the show, "As the ‘Ghost Adventures’ team heads into the hotel to begin their investigation, they enlist the help of a few special guest investigators including Vince Neil, lead singer for the rock band Motley Crue; Bruce Westcott, Frank Sinatra’s former pianist; and Jamie Gold, 2006′s World Series of Poker champion.

"Together the group explores paranormal occurrences in Frank Sinatra’s room and various guest rooms. Attempting to channel Sinatra, they recreate a party in his suite, which delivers some startling results."

And just what are those startling results?

According to the release, they include "scratch marks on one woman’s back, cold sensations, voices and knocking."

Scratch marks on a woman's back? Cold sensations? Voices? Knocking?

Sounds like a date between Annie Duke and her arch-enemy Daniel Negreanu!
