In addition to the main event, which allowed for three separate buy-ins, the record breaking 2105 Battle of Malta featured side events offering up an excellent opportunity for poker players to make a few extra bucks after busting out. Siege of Malta Payouts

The “Siege of Malta” drew 393 players and lasted two days. Thirty-nine players made the money, and when they were down to six, the players made a deal. The chop proved to be profitable for chip leader Samuel Buchanan, as he hit a downward slope shortly after the discussions and hit the rails in fifth place. Jeries Makhalfa pushed through all way, eventually busting Peter Freden in second place.

This action-packed tournament was held for the first time at the Battle of Malta, and it attracted 139 players to the tables of the Spinola Suite. A total of 14 players made the money with Italian Marco D’amiello eventually taking first place. Players really took to this tournament so you can expect it to return to the schedule next year.

The €330 turbo Deep Stack NLHE tournament pretty much followed the structure you’ll find at the Portomaso casino every weekend. It drew a great crowd of 226 players, and it was way past midnight until they finally determined a winner. With a prize pool of over €60,000 there was a first prize of €16,500 for the winner, which ended up being Antonio Russo of Italy.

The only Pot-Limit Omaha Tournament at the Battle of Malta had almost 100 entries including Norwegian poker legend Thor Hansen who made it to the last two tables before he was eliminated. If there was a PLO ranking list at the BOM, it would probably be lead by Olli Konko, who made the money for the second time in a row, finishing in 13th place in 2014 and 6th this year. Last year’s winner Bror Kivello was also back to defend his title, but it wasn’t to be.

Grandmaster High Roller - Battle of Malta - November 2015 - Turbo Deepstack €1,200+€120

The Grandmaster High Roller NLHE event was the most expensive tournament of the 2015 Battle of Malta with a €1,320 buy-in.

This year saw a massive bump in attendance with over 80 players buying in. The tournament attracted numerous big names like Fabrice Soulier, Felix Stephensen, Luca Moschitta, Oanh Bui, and Anatoly Filatov. Filatov eventually made the final table before busting in 6th place. Local hero Clint Sammut finished only one spot behind Filatov, whereas Yaakov Aberloky, who had led the pack most of the tournament, finished just outside the money.
