Following the lead of PokerStars, the world’s number two online poker room, Full Tilt Poker, has voluntarily pulled out of Washington State.  The move effectively makes it near impossible for Washington residents to gamble online.

Washington is the only state in the US that implicitly makes playing poker online illegal.  It is a Class C felony with the same punishment as a repeat drunk driving offender and a child molester.

The move will also make it difficult for individuals to play online poker while visiting the state.

Residents of Washington will still be able to play for real money on Full Tilt Poker….just as long as they are in Oregon or some other neighboring state.

In the Q&A section of Full Tilt’s website, the company offers this suggestion on how to change the archaic laws in Washington State:

You can join the fight to keep poker legal by becoming a member of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), a non-profit membership organization comprised of online and offline poker players whose mission is to establish favorable laws that provide players with a safe and secure poker playing experience. Click here to visit the PPA’s dedicated page for new Washington members.

Recent attempts to appeal the online gambling law failed.
