An unidentified Swedish poker player has fallen from a roof in the gambling mecca of Macau.  Interpol police have begun conducting a homicide investigation.

Swedish newspaper is only now reporting the death, which occurred sometime between 12-16 January.  The young man was described as having resided in Central Sweden and was in Macau to take part in a tournament there.

In the past, Gambling911.com has reported on the dangers of being a Swedish poker player.   Stories about armed robberies, extortion and even murder are not uncommon within the poker community.

In 2012, a 23-year-old poker player was recently placed in custody after allegedly holding up another player at the Casino Cosmopol in Gothenburg in June.  He faced charges of robbery and several cases of extortion.  The victim was forced to surrender 224,000 crowns in that case.

In 2009, the founder of PokerListings.com was murdered in his Sweden home.  The unsolved killing of Andreas Oscarsson, who had previously sold the popular poker portal, was rumored to have connections to organized crime.

Oscarsson, a poker player himself, was shot to death in his family’s home as his two-year-old son slept nearby.

The man moved to the United States from Trollhättan ten years prior but was on holiday in Sweden at the time of his death.

Oscarsson’s murder was also revealed to have involved an apparent $2 million extortion attempt.

In the Macau case, lead investigator Christer Nordström told reporters: “There is some confusion about this and there are a few questions that prosecutors and police want answers . But I can not go into the details.”
