Six of the last seven games in this series have resulted in five or fewer runs, so without a doubt we will be leaning towards the UNDER in each of these provided the pitching scenario and price meet our standards.
In Game One it should be noted that Pittsburgh is 8-2 in Gerrit Cole’s last 10 starts versus the Cubs. We are reluctant to pull the trigger on him however as Jason Hamel steps to the mound for Chicago. Hamel is 3-0 0.75 and just completed six scoreless innings against the Reds.
Monday – Cole has enjoyed great success over the Pirates with an 8-2 record. Only Anthony Rizzo has given him fits with 6 hits in 17 at bats and he’s hit in eight of his last ten appearances overall. Hamel has only allowed two runs in 17 innings of pitching. Go with the UNDER 7 here.
Tuesday – It’s Jake Arrieta (5-0, 1.00) vs. Jonathon Niese (3-0, 5.08) in what should certainly be another UNDER game based on the trending and hot pitching from these two. Niese though is coming off two difficult outings in which he allowed ten hits in each. Take the UNDER here even if as low as 5.5
Wednesday – John Lester (2-1, 1.83 ERA), coming off a a no-decision against the Braves after allowing just one run on seven hits, has allowed just 27 hits off of 120 at bats (4 homers) versus the Pirates. Juan Nicasio (3-2, 3.33) has allowed just six hits and two runs in his last twelve innings pitched. Take the UNDER here only if 7.5 or higher.
