Washington is 9-3 in the last twelve meetings between these two teams. The UNDER is 8-3-2 in Washington’s last 13 overall, 9-2 in the Royals last 11 home games and 9-3 in the Royals last 12 games overall.
Monday – Run support continues to be an issue for Gio Gonzalez despite some good outings. Washington has scored fewer than three runs in three of his four outing this season. As such, Gonzales is just 1-1 despite his 1.42 ERA.
For Daily Fantasy players, the price on Gonzalez will be $8400. Gonzalez had an especially bad showing the last time he faced the Royals, allowing seven on 10 hits in 3 1/3 frames before escaping with a no-decision. We’re hoping that was a fluke but, nevertheless, Eric Hosmer has gone 4-for-6 against him with two home runs.
Edinson Volquez ((3-1, 3.34) allowed eight runs on 12 hits and two walks over five innings Tuesday in a loss Tuesday against the Angels but previously permitted only four runs in 24 innings so we expect him to bounce back here. The play is UNDER 7.5.
Wednesday – Kris Medlen was a tough luck loser in his last start after allowing only a single run homer. He’s only had one bad outing out of four, the others permitted no more than two runs. He’s allowed just 23 hits off of 107 at bats versus the current Washington roster.
Jayson Werth has had some modest success versus Medlen, with 8 hits in 15 at bats that included a home run.
Stephen Strasburg (4-0, 2.25) gave up two runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out nine over seven innings to earn the win Friday in Arizona. Take the UNDER if 7 or higher.
