Bet The 2009 French Open

If you thought it was too late to bet the 2009 French Open, guess again.

Sportingbet.com still had odds on the French Open heading into Thursday for anyone outside the US (for those living in the US, you can bet the French Open at Sportsinteraction.com - Click Here).

Not surprisingly, Roger Federer remained the favorite, but the price was still generous all things considered.  Only a US$138 risk was required to win US$100 (the $100 plus $138 would be paid with a Federer win of course).

World number two Roger Federer was back to his brilliant best as he eased past local favourite Gael Monfils 7-6 6-2 6-4 to book his place in the French Open semi-finals on Wednesday.

The Swiss will play his 20th consecutive grand slam semi-final against Argentine fifth seed Juan Martin del Potro (+600 or 6/1 odds), who he has beaten in their five previous encounters.

Among the women, Dinara Safina was about as big a favorite to win as Roger Federer is for the men.

The 23-year old Russian will play the No. 20 seed Dominika Cibulkova of the Czech Republic, who is making her Grand Slam semifinal debut.
