Desert Party Kentucky Derby Odds

Desert Party's odds to win the 2009 Kentucky Derby have been set at +1500 for a payout potential of $1500 on every $100 bet at SBG Global.  Desert Party's odds improved as a result of his ability to run on what is likely to be a muddy track Saturday.

Jean Cruguet, who rode Seattle Slew to thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown in 1977, is at the Kentucky Derby this week, serving as a celebrity handicapper for Churchill Downs official hospitality program.  And guess who he likes to win the 2009 Kentucky Derby?

You guessed it.  Desert Party.

"At this point, I like Desert Party to win the race. My Exacta pick is Desert Party with I Want Revenge," Cruguet said.

Then there is this interesting tidbit very much worth mentioning with the strong likelihood of rain on Saturday.

Friesan Fire and Desert Party are two horses that have won over a sloppy track, while only a handful of others have ever set foot on one.

Steve Haskin of Bloodhorse.com was also liking Desert Party's odds to win the 2009 Kentucky Derby:

"The other horse I am struggling with is Desert Party, who I was all set to pick as my best bet at a price. I still will bet this horse to win, because he's had a number of terrific mornings, including an eventful, but overly impressive work. He is all class with an air of nobility about him, and he will be Godolphin's best chance to win the Derby by far. His stablemate Regal Ransom is very strong on the Thoro-Graph sheets, and has done nothing wrong here, but he'll likely have to overcome pace pressure. Drawing post 19 is not going to help Desert Party, as he's more than likely going to get parked wide, but there is no way of knowing if it's going to hurt him."
