Steven Silverman Wins First Ever Alpha8 $100k Event

Steven Silverman has won the inaugural Alpha8 $100,000 event and the grand prize of $891,660.

Silverman has been on a huge roll of late, recently winning the 2013 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final back in May and the $1,112,322 cash prize.  The poker pro has accumulated just over $3 million in live tournaments, including this week’s Alpha8 win.

Poker Pro Prahlad Friedman Divorce: Who Will Get the Party Mansion

Poker pro Prahlad Friedman and Dee Luong Friedman are getting a divorce.

According to TMZ.com, Dee filed for divorce on grounds of irreconcilable differences. 

While the two do not have any children, they do have a 4200 square foot estate in the cliffs of Malibu just miles from the beach.

The couple separated back in April and it was not immediately clear who remained living in the mansion.

Poker Pro Robert Hoff Passes Away Unexpectedly

Poker player Robert “Bobby” Hoff has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 73.

He was a regular fixture on the poker scene with the likes of Doyle Brunson and Brian “Sailor” Roberts.

Hoff was best known for his 2nd place finish at the 1979 World Series of Poker.

80-year-old poker icon Doyle Brunson expressed his condolences via Twitter.

21 Players Remain at Hard Rock Poker Open

David “Doc” Sands was among the big names still alive at the 2013 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Hollywood, Florida.

21 players remain with Mukul Pahuja leading the pack. Pahuja has $375,900 in total winnings on the live circuit.  The New York State native also has 38 cashes.

High Stake Poker Players Accept Plea Deals in Russian Mob Gambling Probe

Two high stakes poker players have plead guilty to reduced charges in connection to a gambling ring bust that allegedly has ties to the Russian Mob.

Justin Smith, 25, and Edwin Ting, 41, have plead guilty to running an Internet gambling business.  They are two of 34 individuals charged.

Two other men plead guilty earlier in the week.

Poker Pro Matt Savage Released From Hospital in Wheel Chair: Avoids Paralysis

One of the most recognized faces in poker today, Matt Savage, was released from a hospital Thursday evening and thanked all the well-wishers for their support and prayers.

Savage underwent urgent cervical stenosis surgery after an MRI revealed three severely pinched nerves in his back.  If left untreated, Savage would almost certainly have become paralyzed.

California Online Poker Bill Goes Down in Flames Once Again

It only took around 24 hours for state senator Lou Correa's Senate Bill 678 to legalize online poker in California to be shelved once again.

This was an amended bill introduced this week that would have granted licensing exclusively to card clubs and American Indian tribes that already offer gambling in the state.

Wynn Resorts Applies for Online Gambling License in New Jersey

(Reuters) - Wynn Resorts Ltd said on Thursday it filed an application with New Jersey gaming regulators for an Internet gambling license.

Wynn's application follows dozens of companies that have submitted applications with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement for Internet gambling licenses ahead of a targeted launch date in late November.

Wynn Resorts operates casinos in Las Vegas and China's Macau, but has no casino operations in Atlantic City.

Poker Icon Matt Savage Hospitalized: Nearly Crippled by Waterslide Head Injury

Poker personality Matt Savage is hoping to avoid paralysis by undergoing urgent cervical stenosis surgery Wednesday morning.

Savage suffered hit his head on a waterslide and for the past few weeks he started to feel pain in his back and chest along with numbness in his arm, according to his Facebook page.

InsuredPlay.com to Shut Down

An all-in equity insurance product for online cash games, InsuredPlay.com, will no longer be available as the site is slated to shut down after only 16 months in business.

All player balances remain safe, and everyone will be repaid their balances in full, the company assures but withdrawal requests must take place by September 30.

A statement from the site claimed that “a number of difficulties that we have not been able to overcome” have led to the shutdown.

Poker Pro Kevin Boudreau Goes to Rehab After Suffering Brain Hemorrhage During WSOP

His early prognosis was hard for many to bear but there is great news regarding the condition of 25-year-old Kevin Boudreau.  He is on his way to rehab.

Boudreau was hospitalized two months ago in Las Vegas after severe bleeding occurred in his brain.  It was determined he had suffered a brain hemorrhage while on a dinner break at this year’s World Series of Poker.

UKIP Treasurer Stuart Wheeler has come under fire for suggesting that women are not competitive enough and, as such, don’t have much of a place in the board room.

Virginia Illegal Poker Game Raided

NORFOLK, Va. (Associated Press) — Four Norfolk men are charged with running an illegal high-stakes poker game out of a house in a subdivision along the Elizabeth River.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that the investigation started with a tip last December and led to arrests earlier this month.

According to police, the games of Texas Hold 'em were conducted three nights a week. The minimum buy-in was $100, and the operation raked in about $2,000 a night.
