Why Kari Lake Hasn't Been Declared the Winner Yet: Hobbs a Huge Favorite to Win General
Gamblers may want their Arizona GOP Governor's Primary bets graded, but that can't happen without a declared winner.
Former news anchor Kari Lake narrowly leads lawyer Karrin Taylor Robson in the vote count after polls closed on Tuesday.
But Maricopa County, the biggest in the state of Arizona and home to the most populous city of Phoenix, says it wasn't expected to release results until some time Thursday night. That county is in the process of verifying signatures on all of the early ballots dropped off on Election Day. Maricopa had initially said they would be completed by Wednesday night.
Those who bet Lake have a lot of money on the line based on the risk-reward equation alone. It would have taken an $80 bet to realize a $10 profit. Needless-to-say, there probably weren't a whole lot of wagers placed on Lake due to her early near "lock" status and the limits placed on political bets.
For her part, Lake, an ardent denier of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Elections results, already declared victory early Wednesday.
"We are confident that the outstanding votes left to be counted will favor @KariLake," she tweeted out. "We know what the outcome is. Kari Lake is the @AZGOP nominee for Governor. Why is the #FakeNews media afraid to call the race? Some of them seemed very eager to call Arizona back in 2020."
On the Democratic side, Secretary of State of Arizona Katie Hobbs easily beat her opponent in that state's party primary.
Gambling911.com has Hobbs as a -400 favorite to win in the general election for Arizona Governor.
The winner replaces Republican Governor Doug Ducey, who is term limited. Ducey is the nephew of online gambling pioneer Bill Scott.
