Defunct Revel Casino Gets Big Tax Break for 2015

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey — (Associated Press) - Revel has finally won something.  The former Atlantic City casino is getting a big tax break this year under a settlement it reached with the city and will see its property tax assessment for 2015 be reduced from $625 million to $225 million.

Atlantic City Gets Another Downgrade

(Reuters) - Standard & Poor's Ratings Services cut Atlantic City's rating four notches to junk at 'BB' on Tuesday, the second Wall Street rating agency to issue a super-downgrade in the days before the city plans a $12 million note sale.

On Friday, Moody's Investors Service, which had already rated the city's debt non-investment grade, cut its rating on the financially distressed New Jersey gambling hub six notches deeper into junk.

The dreaded “porn shields” are coming, at least for those folks in the UK who utilized ISPs from Talk Talk and Sky.  Caught in the crosshairs, online gambling websites.

Paddy Power Funded FIFA Campaign in Jeopardy

LONDON — (Associated Press) - Even if David Ginola gains the nominations required by Thursday's deadline to stand against Sepp Blatter, his improbable bookmaker-funded campaign could be scuppered by FIFA's gambling rules.

Ginola's campaign is being organized by stunt-prone Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, which is paying the former France international 250,000 pounds ($375,000) to seek the FIFA presidency.

PA Drilling Exec Faces 7 Years Behind Bars for Embezzling $9 Mil to Gamble

A one-time chief operating officer for a Western Pennsylvania drilling company is facing more than seven years behind bars when he is sentenced for embezzlement Friday. 

Fifty-four-year-old Larry Dean Winckler pleaded guilty to conspiracy, mail fraud and income tax fraud in February and was to be sentenced in July but the sentencing was then delayed for more than six months.

Macau Outperforms World’s Other Cities Economically

WASHINGTON (Associated Press) — Macau, the Chinese territory known for casino gambling, outperformed the rest of the world's major cities economically last year, according to a report out Thursday.

Cities in the developing world, especially China, dominated the top of the annual economic rankings of 300 cities worldwide by the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase. One exception: Bangkok, Thailand, came in last, its economy wrecked by political strife.

Gambler Now Asking for $1 Million in Lawsuit Against Casino for Gambling Losses

A Los Angeles man is asking for more than $1 million plus attorney fees from a Las Vegas casino, claiming he was permitted to keep drinking in the establishment last February despite being noticeably inebriated.  He went on to lose $500,000 that day betting the Super Bowl.

Mark Johnston, of Los Angeles, admits he had plenty of drinks before stepping foot into the Downtown Grand casino.

Motorcycle Gang’s Existence Revolved Around Meth, Gambling, Prosecutors Claim

A Mount Clemens, Michigan national motorcycle gang, the Devil’s Diciples, is accused of running an elaborate meth, gambling, theft and violence ring.  Six individuals have been charged and are currently standing trial in connection with the scheme.  35 others are named in a federal indictment and all are in custody.

New Credit Card Code for Online Gambling in New Jersey Should Reduce Decline Rate

A new credit card code is set to be introduced for online gambling in New Jersey come Springtime, thus helping to reduce decline rates.

Reports suggest that the approval rate for Visa cards has been around 73% on average for Visa with a dismal 44% for Mastercard.  American Express does not allow transactions for online gambling at this time.

While online gambling is legal in New Jersey, many credit card issuing banks, including Wells Fargo, have refused to allow transactions for Web gambling due to federal legislation.
