Marco Rubio Still -1500 Favorite After Val Demings: Plus Cashing in on Political Domains Ahead of 2024
Sen. Marco Rubio is seeking a 3rd term as Florida senator but the Republican ran unopposed for the GOP primary and sits on a massive war chest of money he can now use against his opponent in the general election.
That Democrat candidate will be Val Demings after she handily beat her opponent, winning 84% of the vote in her primary Tuesday night.
BetOnline still has Rubio as the -1500 favorite, but a recent poll does show Demings up by four points.
Rubio's odds actually fell from -2500 just last week at BetOnline.
U.S. Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., will take on incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in November's race for Senate.
Val Demings celebrated her primary victory early.
"Together, I really do believe this daughter of a maid and janitor who is not supposed to be standing here tonight — I really do believe that together we can do anything," she said.
Elsewhere in Florida, Charlie Crist won a tighter Democratic primary, albeit by double digits, and will face off against Ron DeSantis for the governor seat. DeSantis remains a favorite in this race and is currently the co-favorite to become the next U.S. President in 2024 with former President Donald Trump.
Political Domains Are a Hot Commodity Ahead of 2024
Beyond the 2022 Midterms, savvy entrepreneurs are looking to cash in on political-themed domains.
This quarter, a new domain sale could offer a significant platform on which candidates, political parties, or activists could build their brand.
Among the political domains up for grabs: ProFreedom.com.
Listed by a private seller, ProFreedom.com is described in its listing as a domain that "embodies the American spirit, echoing the nation’s most prized constitutional right: the right to pursue life, liberty, and happiness".
Sources close to Gambling911.com say the owners expect to fetch over a million dollars.
As noted above, Trump and DeSantis are co-favorites to win the 2024 Presidential election, thus prompting speculation the two could run on the same ticket. The TrumpDeSantis.com domain has a starting bid of $20,000 but will likely shoot above the million dollar mark and beyond should this political marriage come to fruition. The hopes would be that the campaign would purchase said domain for well over a million. That gamble could ultimately pay off.
In 2021, the website GeorgiaRunoff.com sold for an undisclosed amount of money ahead of a runoff GOP Senate race in that state. It was previously owned by VPN.com.
“We are excited to announce the sale of GeorgiaRunoff.com through GoDaddy,," that group proclaimed at the time. "Congratulations to both the buyer and seller! With hundreds of millions of dollars invested into both Georgia Runoff elections, there is no better timing for a domain like this in the most expensive congressional election in US history."
Ultimately, both winners were Democrats, thus placing Senate power back in the hands of that party.
With the amount of political spending in ads, it makes sense for campaign operatives to purchase a domain that should automatically rank number one in search based on its web name authority. Type "Bookmaker" into Google search, our friends at Bookmaker.eu rank number one, even with the less appealing .eu extension.
A website like ProFreedom.com can certainly flourish well beyond the 2024 election and might even be more suitable for advocacy initiatives: Think gun rights and abortion rights.
Domains like Voice.com can be utilized even beyond politics and advocac projects, making them all the more lucrative.
Voice.com fetched a cool $30 million back in June of 2019. It is now a site "committed to guiding the future of Web3" and various political movements as well as NFT residencies.
