GoDaddy.com Sued for $100 Million in Aiding Michael Jackson Online Casino

The popular registrar GoDaddy.com is being sued for its allowing a company to register the MichaelJackson.com online casino, according to TMZ.com. 

GoDaddy.com is being pursued by Howard Mann, who claims he owns the copyright to photos features on the Internet casino website, which remains up as of press time Tuesday morning.  The mystery owner registered through GoDaddy.com, according to the suit.

Las Vegas Sands Corp Booming Asia Business: Shares Rise 2.3 Percent

 

Shares in Las Vegas Sands Corp (LVS.N) posted a better-than-expected quarterly profit last week thanks to its new Singapore resort and gambling in Macau. 

Sands, whose shares rose 2.3 percent in morning trading, earned 17 cents a share in the second quarter after adjusting for one-time items. Analysts on average expected 9 cents a share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Net revenue rose nearly 51 percent to $1.59 billion.

"They had a monster quarter," said Sanford Bernstein analyst Janet Brashear.

European Online Gambling Firms Want Into U.S. Market: Hopes Are High

 

Nearly all European online gambling firms, including the poker sites, have shied away from the U.S. market for the past 3 years following passage of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) back in October 2006.  The first step towards appealing that law took place Wednesday with a markup in a House subcommittee.  Now it’s off to the House and Senate where further amendments are likely.

William Hill “Worst Ever Royal Ascot” Blamed for Poor Profit Margins

William Hill continues to hint at moving its telephone business offshore following dismal results over the past year compared to its online arm.

"Poor horse racing results" led to a 33% fall in net telephone revenue, with a statement from Hills explicitly pointing out: "The board has previously noted the challenge of competing with UK betting exchanges and Irish offshore telebetting operators, all of whom have benefited from significant tax and cost advantages over UK bookmakers. The situation is under active review."
