Unibet Buys Stan James Internet Business

Sweden-based Unibet has purchased betting firm Stan James’ online assets for approximately £19 million ($29 million).  The sale does not include any of Stan James 90 bookmaking stores throughout the UK.

“We have long been looking at strengthening our position in the UK online market,” said Henrik Tjärnström, CEO Unibet. “Stan James as an operator is one of the most well-respected in the UK market with particular strengths in horse-racing and other British sports.”

Son of Former Genovese Crime Boss Sentenced to Over Two Years for Illegal Gambling

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (Associated Press) - A reputed mob member has been sentenced to just over 2 years in prison for running an illegal gambling business.

Daniel Pagano was also given three years of supervised release and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine when he was sentenced Friday in federal court in White Plains.

Gambler Demands Big Tips Back After Losing Two Weeks Later: Threatens Staff

A “generous” gambler tipped the betting staff big after his huge windfall only to demand all the money back after suffering a significant loss two weeks later.  He even threatened the staff at one point.

Police were called to the BetFred bookmaker shop in Manchester after being advised of the individual’s demands.

Pete Rose Remains Revered in Home Town Despite Gambling Controversy

CINCINNATI — (Associated Press) - A photograph of the bat and ball from Pete Rose's record-setting 4,192nd hit has adorned the back of the enormous video board at Great American Ball Park for a dozen years, reminding everyone of one of the city's biggest sports moments.

The reaction to Daily Fantasy Sports site DraftKings decision to allow high-volute players to utilize automated software tools had elicited quite a bit of discourse from Gambling911.com Twitter followers Friday.

Yahoo Launches Daily Fantasy Sports Site: Will Take on DraftKings, FanDuel

Yahoo, long a leader in the season-long Fantasy Sports space, began offering Daily Fantasy Sports contests effective Wednesday (July 9, 2015).  Yahoo has now positioned itself to compete with DFS juggernauts DraftKings and FanDuel.com, both of which have partnered with professional sports leagues and franchises. 

Yahoo will first offer Major League Baseball Daily Fantasy contests then will expand into other sports such as the NFL.

Gambino Crime Family Captain Appeals Guilty Verdict in Murder Over Spilled Drink

A Gambino crime family captain convicted in 2013 for the murder of two bar owners over a spilled drink is appealing the guilty verdict.

Bartolomeo “Bobby Glasses” Vernace was convicted of racketeering conspiracy spanning 1978 through 2011.  Charges included heroin trafficking, robbery, loansharking, illegal gambling and the 1981 double homicide of bar owners Richard Godkin and John D’Agnese.

Italian Authorities Seize $1.7 Billion in Real Life ‘Godfather’ Case

Italian authorities have taken control of $1.76 billion from a Sicilian construction company believed to have ties to organized crime in Corleone.

The Corleone name became synonymous with the Italian Mafia thanks to the Francis Ford Coppola classic film “The Godfather” and its two sequels. 

Unlike the “Godfather” fictional Coleones, the real-life Mafia family appears less interested in gambling enterprises and more interested in winning contracts of – drum roll please – honest businessmen.

Democratic Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders campaign for President of the United States continues to gain momentum with a 5 point slashing of his odds over the past 24 hours at Sportsbook.ag.  He was now listed at 20-1 odds of becoming the new U.S. President.  Only Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton (+105), Republicans Jeb Bush (4-1), Scott Walker (10-1) and Marco Rubio (12-1) had shorter odds of winning.

Man Accused of Cheating at Poker Game Now Charged With Murdering Accuser

A Minnesota man accused of cheating during a poker game Thursday night has now been charged with murder.

Police were called to the scene of Willy’s Bar in Coon Rapids around 12:41 am Thursday after a reported shooting.  29-year-old Rayontra Raydell McCall was found with gunshot wounds to his hand and chest.  McCall was transported to Mercy Hospital where he later died.
