  • Some states that license FanDuel do not allow betting on their horse racing platform

  • FanDuel offers their FanDuel Racing app in some states that do not license the FanDuel Sportsbook

  • Alternatives include BetOnline, which is licensed offshore and is accessible in most states since 1999

There tends to be plenty of confusion on which apps offer betting on the Kentucky Derby as horse racing is often not incorporated into a typical sports betting account.  This also applies to FanDuel, a leading sportsbook in the regulated U.S. market.

Adding to the confusion, some states that license FanDuel's sportsbook do not allow betting on the FanDuel Racing app or within the sportsbook app itself.

These include:

New Jersey → clearest example
Kentucky → separated by law (must use racing app)
North Carolina → sportsbook-only market (no horse integration)

Missouri - Horse racing is not available within the licensed sportsbook app.

These are the states where FanDuel is currently licensed to operate in 2026 and you should be able to place Kentucky Derby bets within the sportsbook app:

  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut]
  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • Massachusetts
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming

The FanDuel Racing app is available to place bets on this year's Kentucky Derby from these states where FanDuel's sportsbook is not yet licensed to operate online:

  • California
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Minnesota
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • Rhode Island

And, specifically, where can't I bet horses at FanDuel (alternatives include BetOnline here):

  • Alabama
  • Georgia
  • Maine
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • New Jersey
  • South Carolina
  • Alaska
  • Hawaii
  • Utah
  • Texas
