The Nick Zito-trained horse is the first of two likely standbys to enter the race last minute.  El Kabeir was also a late scratch heading into Friday evening.

Dortmund, with the second shortest odds of winning this year’s Kentucky Derby, had odds of just over 4/1 to be crowned the victor on Saturday.  Meanwhile, favorite American Pharoah was slipping towards 3/1.

2015 Kentucky Derby Weather, Track Condition Forecast

The 2015 Kentucky Derby weather will be partly cloudy, in the mid-70s with a zero percent chance of rain.  As such, the track condition will be dry.

This represents a first for a Kentucky Derby in recent years as rain and slop have always loomed.  During some years, the race has managed to skirt rain storms, making for a difficult forecast.

American Pharoah Kentucky Derby Odds Still 2-1 Following Dreadful Post Position

American Pharoah had short odds of 2/1 to win the 2015 Kentucky Derby despite a post-position (18) that has only produced one winner in the history of this race.

American Pharoah remains the favorite to win the Derby but Dortmund is closing in at 3-1 odds. 

Jockey Victor Espinoza will be riding American Pharoah.  Don’t tell him 18 is a bad number.

"I love my post, 18," Espinoza said afterward. "I feel lucky with that number."
