Gambling911.com’s own Jenny Woo might believe two plus two equals five but the reality is, Ms. Woo was not exactly hired for her math skills.

Yes, she acts as our accountant on occasion, such as figuring out tips in third world nations that use extra zero denominations as their currencies.

Not since the infamous “Whole Cards” story from G911 has there been such a tongue-lashing from the astute poker crowd over at TwoPlusTwo.com.

What’s all the hoopla about?

Jenny Woo earlier reported that the now defunct BetOnSports had finally paid back “4.63 cents on the dollar or 3 percent”.  Obviously, 4.63 cents on the dollar is equal to 4.63 percent.  However, Ms. Woo meant to write that some recipients were getting 3 percent as opposed to the close to 5 percent others were reporting.  Others were getting close to nothing.

The criticism was well founded.

One forum member wrote:

“I guess Gambling 911 is staffed with fired Verizon CS reps,” referring to a blog post about Verizon employees not being able to differentiate between dollars and cents.

Another wrote:

“This article is worth 4.63 cents on the dollar, that is... hummmm... 8 to 3 or 6 percent.”

And yet another had this scathing comment:

“Terrible ‘article’ but to be expected from Gambling911. I'm just amazed that people insist on using them as a source repeatedly on this forum.”

And another:  “Sorry, i'll admit that i didn't even read the link. i just thought this was one of those offers of someone willing to buy FTP bux for 4.63 cents on the dollar, aka 3-4% on the dollar, by some country's math.”

Analytics monitoring sites like Quantcast show that nearly 80 percent of Gambling911.com’s readership base is college educated (44 percent college and 16 percent grad school) therefore we must be more careful what we publish, even when it comes to math, or else Gambling911.com could end up going the way of News of the World.

As the new Senior Reporter here, it is my job to ensure such meticulousness.

In my native India we have a saying: “Living in water and being an enemy of the crocodile is never good.”

Our deepest apologies for any anguish Ms. Woo's article might have caused.
