North Korea Leader Feeds Uncle to 120 Dogs: Paddy Power Ends Rodman Deal
Reports surfaced this past weekend that North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un had his uncle stripped naked, thrown into a cage, and eaten alive by a pack of 120 ravenous hounds, this according to a Chinese press report.
The uncle ,Jang Song Thaek, was purged from power last month following allegations of an affair and other wrongful acts against the so-called "Hermit Kingdom". These acts included gambling and drug usage.
The detailed account of the brutal execution was published in Wen Wei Po, a Hong Kong-based mouthpiece of China's ruling communist party. The report also says that five other associates were thrown into the cage along with Kim Jong Un's uncle.
By Monday morning, Reuters had mostly dispelled the report, suggesting that they appear to have originated as satire on a Chinese microblogging website. Death by firing squad is typically the method used for executions in North Korea.
Meanwhile, over the holiday season, Irish bookmaker Paddy Power announced it had suspended the sponsorship deal with former NBA star Dennis Rodman. Both his recent trips to North Korea were sponsored by the UK’s third largest betting firm.
"It was really a reaction to the worldwide focus and total condemnation of the North Korean regime over recent events," the Irish betting firm said in a statement. "We don't want to be associated with that."
