A group of gamblers brutally attacked a 28-year-old youth after he protested their activities.  One of the members of the gang ultimately bit off the young man’s ear.

Two gang members, both sons of a gambling board owner, were arrested on Sunday by Koklata authorities.

The victim, Biswajit Bala, himself carried his ear to the RG Kar Medical College.  He is still undergoing treatment for the injury.

Locals have asserted that the area where the attack occurred has become known for its expansive gambling dens.

"Several small stalls have been set up along the railway tracks for this illegal purpose. Those selling tea or fast food also house gambling boards. The gang led by local rowdy Jiban Kundu runs the gambling dens in these shops in the evening," a local trader said.
