We've been hearing all week that last Sunday's Super Bowl is ''the highest rated TV show in history," even passing the two-and-half-hour final episode of the 1970s-'80s war-and-medical-themed sitcom M*A*S*H.

That's how the media reported it

But, is the USA the only country in the world?

The Super Bowl was the highest rated TV show in American history, not world history.

There are over 200 other countries in the world they're forgetting about.

Also forgetting about: The USA, with about 300 million people, has just 5% or one-twentieh (1/20) of the world's populaton, which is about six billion.

China, meanwhile, has over a billion people just by itself--that's one-sixth (1/6) of the planet or 17%.

A few years ago, the NBA played a game in China.  Afterwards, "the TV ratings" showed several million watched, so the NBA bleated about its great success.  But those few million viewers were all U.S. viewers.

It turned out that about 180 million watched the game in China--not even a record for them--so in actuality, U.S. ratings are misleading when they're declared records with no context.

Lots of shows in China have S*M*A*S*H*E*D M*A*S*H and the Super Bowl, and have been doing so for years.

The only place the last Super Bowl had the highest TV ratings in history is in the head of NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell and a few TV execs.
