Nephew of Online Gambling Pioneer Becomes Newly Elected Arizona Governor

The nephew of a prominent online gambling and sports wagering pioneer Bill Scott has become the new Governor of Arizona.

The former CEO of ice cream chain Cold Stone Creamery and current State Treasurer, Doug Ducey, was voted in as that state’s new Republican Governor.  He replaces Jan Brewer, who could no longer run again due to term limits.

Ducey cruised to victory in the typically reliable “red” state, beating out Democrat challenger Fred DuVal.

Ducey’s uncle is online gambling pioneer Bill Scott (Anglisized Scotti), who ran one of the first successful online gambling sports betting businesses, World Wide Tele Sports (WWTS) out of the Caribbean island nation of Antigua.  It was the first ever licensed offshore gambling site that catered to North Americans by phone and eventually online and, at its peak, one of the largest. That business later merged with a publicly traded Australian betting firm and would eventually be absorbed into the Bodog Brand conglomerate.

In an odd twist, Scott's long time business partner, Jessica Davis, was the granddaughter of a former North Dakota Governor.

It was now retired long time Arizona Senator, Jon Kyl, who ultimately brought the online gambling industry to its knees after pushing through prohibition that banned most forms of the activity in late 2006.
