Traditionally, Daytona 500 betting has not yielded top results for online sportsbooks the way that the Super Bowl or Kentucky Derby have.  It remains to be seen when and if Dayton 500 betting will ever really catch on to that extent.

Let's be clear:  People do bet on NASCAR.  It was, however among the last big sports that online betting shops posted lines on.  Many such companies, like the now defunct BetOnSports.com, required its customers to wager on other events as opposed to betting NASCAR exclusively - at least that was the early policy.

Today, these archaic rules are no longer in place.  We at Gambling911.com certainly are not aware of such restrictions.  But it just goes to show the difficulties in turning NASCAR fans (and make no mistake about it, there are many) into bettors.  The transformation is among the most difficult it seems.

"The notion that NASCAR is hard to bet on goes out the window," explains Gambling911.com resident sports reporter, Don Shapiro.  "That is hardly the case especially when it comes to futures where you are simply placing a bet on which driver will win."

The odds pay out a minimum of $400 on a $100 bet at SBG Global, which is also giving away up to 165 percent in bonus money when one open's an online betting account today.

Kyle Busch is now the +400 favorite, knocking Dale Earnhardt Jr. out of that position.  +400 odds pay out $400 for every $100 bet.  Earnhardt Jr. pays $500 for every $100 bet.

Daytona 500 betting in the 2008 NASCAR season was season that gave a sneak peak at the up and coming drivers in NASCAR and also showed us which veterans are on the decline and may not be as relevant in 2009.

One driver that seems to fall into the latter category is three time Daytona 500 betting champion Jeff Gordon. One of the winningest drivers in NASCAR and Daytona 500 betting history, Gordon had a hellish 2008 season -at least by his lofty standards, finishing 7th in the NASCAR standings.

We know the big names, and they are all listed with short odds but SBG Global suggested getting acquainted with a few of the long shots as well.

Carl Edwards (at +1100 odds pays $1100 for every $100 bet) has emerged as the one of the top drivers in NASCAR. However, Edwards has a history of being a slow starter and has never ran especially well at the Daytona 500 betting event, instead racing his best toward the end of the NASCAR season. Greg Biffle would pay $2800 for every $100 bet, would love to make a name for himself in Daytona 500 betting history by winning the race.

The wild card in this year's Daytona 500 betting could be young Joey Logano who at just 18 years old has his own ride with Gibbs Racing and would be the youngest winner ever.  A win by Logano would pay $3000 for every $100 bet.
