California Wants Online Poker Legalized Now

California Senator Lou Correa has amended his California bill SB40 in an effort to legalize online poker in the state before federal legislation is passed.

Correa has marked his bill with an “urgency category”, resulting in the bill remaining active to progress at this year’s legislative phase without having to beat committee deadlines.

The only thing needed, a signature from Democratic California Governor Jerry Brown.

UB.com, Absolute Poker Part Ways With Pros

Blanca Games Inc. (“Blanca”), operator of online poker rooms Absolute Poker and UB, issued the following statement today:

“Recently, Absolute Poker and UB ceased their U.S.-facing operations due to legal developments in the United States. To ensure the on-going viability of the business, it has been necessary to downsize certain aspects of Absolute Poker’s and UB’s operations.  These efficiency measures have been taken to enable the brands to continue to operate their non-U.S.-facing business.

2011 Kentucky Derby Sets Record: $165.2 Million in Wagers

The 2011 Kentucky Derby brought in a record $165.2 million in wagers, and that is not including bets taken online.

All-sources wagering on the Kentucky Derby card was $165.2 million, the third-highest in Derby history and an increase of 1.5 percent over the prior year's $162.7 million.  All-sources handle on the Derby race itself was $112.0 million, flat with 2010's $112.7 million. Churchill Downs returned $135.3 million to bettors, which amounts to 81.9 percent of total wagering on the Derby Day race card.

UB.com Loses More Than Three Quarters of Its Online Poker Traffic

It’s been a hard fall for UB.com and Absolute Poker as the network has lost more than three quarters of its online poker traffic post-indictments.

UB.com and Absolute Poker were caught up in an April 15 crackdown by US law enforcement along with PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.  Each were charged with money laundering and bank fraud.  The three sites also had their domain names seized by the US Justice Department.
