Everest Poker Revenues Way Up for Parent Company

Everest Poker's parent company GigaMedia's second-quarter results revealed revenues were up 31% on same period last year to US$52.5m, with operating income growing 18% to US$11.9m.

Las Vegas Continues to be Paralyzed by US Economy Woes

Statewide, gambling revenue for June was down a little more than 1% at $949.3 million, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

And on the Strip -- which accounts for roughly half of all gambling in the Silver State -- monthly revenue fell 3% to $486.4 million. After a relatively upbeat start to 2008, Nevada gambling revenue is down nearly 2% for the year to date, with the Strip off 1.5%.

Three Plead Guilty in BetonSports Case

Three Florida men pleaded guilty in federal court in St. Louis Wednesday to online gambling-related charges, marking a first in attempts to shut down online gambling, prosecutors said.

The three are the first individuals to plead guilty in the case involving BetOnSports, which was once one of the largest online gambling companies in the world, and the first convictions of a "non-gambling entity" like an advertising or marketing company for a gambling-related crime, Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Holtshouser said.
