Inside Gaming: N.J. likely to Suffer Same Fate as Bernie

Atlantic City gaming revenues fell 8.5 percent in January to $294.2 million, the New Jersey city's 17th straight monthly decline.

That was the good news.

In the past five weeks, Atlantic City's 11 casinos saw new competition emerge (table games in Pennsylvania and Delaware, slot machines in Maryland and New York) and two casino operators (MGM Mirage and Pinnacle Entertainment) begin planning their exit from the market.

Major Poker Raid in Alabama

(WBRC) A raid on a Texas Hold 'Em game in Pelham has poker players around the area looking over their shoulders.

Pelham and Hoover police served a search warrant at a game in Pelham on Saturday where more than 72 players and thousands of dollars were involved. NJ Panel to Consider Law on Sports Betting

TRENTON -- Legislation that would allow New Jersey's horse racing tracks and Atlantic City casinos to accept wagers on sporting events will go before an Assembly panel this week.

It would allow gamblers to make bets in person or via telephone or the Internet, though wagers would not be allowed on college games that take place in the Garden State or involve a New Jersey college team, regardless of where the game was played.

But before any such law could be enacted, voters would first have to amend the state Constitution to permit such wagering.
