Playboy Problems Not Stopping With Online Poker Room

The closure of Playboy's online poker room last week appears to be just the tip of the iceberg.

The famed company warned investors that it will take a write-down of goodwill and other charges amounting to more than $100 million, resulting in a net loss for Q4. The magazine publisher also expects a $4 million charge on cost-reduction initiatives, which will include an unspecified number of job cuts.  The company will also fold its New York office according to reports.

Poker Pro Amarillo Slim Beaten and Robbed

News broke Thursday night that 80-year old poker legend Amarillo Slim was robbed and assaulted in his hometown of Amarillo, Texas.  

Allegedly, the former World Series of Poker Champion was attempting to obtain collateral on a debt owed to him.  The debt he was owed was $3,000 and he was merely trying to collect some kind of down payment on the amount.  According to Amarillo Police Lieutenant Jim McKenny, Slim met his assailant at an agreed to location, an open field where he thought he would be picking up some type of 4-wheeler as the collateral.

Kentucky Governor Files Appeal re: Online Gambling Decision

Kentucky Governor Steven Beshear and his legal counsel have filed an appeal with the state court after losing a case Tuesday to seize 141 online gambling domain names.

In a 2-to-1 majority opinion, The Kentucky Court of Appeals ruled for the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association (iMEGA) in its suit against Judge Thomas D. Wingate (No. 2008-CA-002000-OA), by blocking the seizure orders issued by the Franklin (KY) circuit court judge for the domain names, all related to Internet gambling (Commonwealth of Kentucky, Franklin Circuit Court, Division II, 08-CI-1409).
