Chow to Take on Macau With T-Rex, Gladiators

(Reuters) - Macau tycoon David Chow is ripping up the fake volcano and Roman amphitheatre that were the show pieces of a failed theme park he built in the Chinese gaming enclave seven years ago.

He is replacing them with something a little less kitsch and more in keeping with the neighbourhood: a casino resort boasting an opera house and dinosaur museum that he hopes will return him to the spotlight of the world's largest gambling hub.

Judge Won't Toss $70M Jury Award Against Sands

(Associated Press) - A Hong Kong businessman is one step closer to collecting a multibillion-dollar award from Las Vegas Sands Corp., the largest U.S. casino company.

A Nevada judge on Tuesday denied Sands' request to throw out a jury verdict awarding former consultant Richard Suen $70 million in a breach-of-contract case.

Sands presented 12 reasons the company should be granted a retrial.

Prosecutors Claim Former FBI Agent Exaggerated Whitey Bulger Claims

BOSTON – (Associated Press) - Prosecutors on Tuesday suggested that a former FBI supervisor exaggerated his claim that he tried to end the FBI's corrupt relationship with reputed mobster James "Whitey" Bulger.

Robert Fitzpatrick, a former assistant special agent in charge of the Boston FBI office, testified that he tried to convince the FBI to terminate Bulger as an informant after Bulger was uncooperative and didn't appear to be helping the bureau's mission to gather information on the Mafia.

Number of Firms Applying for Online Gambling License in NJ Up to 37

A total of 37 online gambling companies have applied to serve the Garden State and its nearly 9 million people.

The New Jersey state Gaming Enforcement Division says it received the applications by Monday's deadline for initial consideration, a major milestone in Atlantic City's development of online betting.

Revel Atlantic City Poker Room to Shut Down in Next Two Weeks

The financially strapped Revel Casino in Atlantic City is ready to close its poker room.

John Brennan of the Bergen Record tweeted Monday:

Sources: Revel AC poker room will close in 2 weeks. Canceling all tournaments. Bad beat jackpots to be paid.

The Revel Casino is expected to shut its poker room down on August 15 though the closure could actually happen sooner.

Caesars' 2Q Misses Expectations

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) — Casino operator Caesars Entertainment Corp. posted a smaller loss for its fiscal first quarter on Monday, but results still missed expectations as slots and tables drew fewer gamblers.

Caesars owns or manages more than 50 casinos, most of them in the U.S. and Britain.

The company saw casino revenues decline by $116.8 million, or 7.5 percent. CEO Gary Loveman said food and beverage sales may ultimately replace those dollars.

Boston Mobster Whitey Bulger May Testify at His Own Trial

BOSTON — (Associated Press) - As lawyers for James "Whitey" Bulger begin to defend him against a massive racketeering indictment charging him in 19 killings, one big question remains: Will he testify?

Some lawyers not connected to the case say Bulger has too much baggage to testify, including a prior criminal record and a long reputation as an organized crime figure.

But others say Bulger's case is different because, at age 83, he knows he is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison and may be more interested in settling scores than being acquitted.

Wynn Macau Q2 Revenues Not Entirely Impressive

LAS VEGAS — (Associated Press) - Wynn Resorts Ltd. said Monday that it made less money than expected in the Chinese gambling enclave of Macau, and its second quarter missed analysts' forecasts.

Excluding special items, Wynn made $1.51 per share on revenue of $1.33 billion in the latest quarter.

Analysts polled by FactSet forecast, on average, earnings of $1.57 per share on revenue of $1.34 billion

MicroMillions 5 Main Event Awards Record First Prize

Lithuanian player ‘stygher’ won the MicroMillions 5 $22 NL Hold’em Main Event yesterday, topping a field of 59,213 players to win the first prize of $160,726.14. It is the biggest individual prize for a MicroMillions champion, beating the previous record of $157,218.68, which was won by ‘SoyDelGlobo’ in the MicroMillions II Main Event.

‘Ray Donovan’ Producer Bryan Zuriff Pleads Guilty in Sports Betting Case

A Hollywood producer has pleaded guilty in New York for his role in a high-stakes sports betting business run by an organized-crime enterprise.

Bryan Zuriff is executive producer of the Showtime series Ray Donovan. He pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to accepting a financial instrument in connection with unlawful Internet gambling.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (buh-RAH’-ruh) announced the plea Friday, saying Zuriff operated an illegal gambling enterprise in Los Angeles and helped run one in New York.

Wife and Son of Gambling Boss Masterminded His Truck Crash Murder

The wife and son of a gambling boss have been convicted for his brutal murder.

Jaya Bhagat, son Hitesh and four others were convicted for the truck crash murder of Suresh Bhagat on June 13, 2008.

A Mumbai court found that Jaya wanted to usurp his property and take over his multi-crore gambling business.

Jaya’s lover was also sought in the killing.

There were 80 witnesses to the murder.

Online Gambling Firm Wants to Buy or Build Casino in Atlantic City

TRENTON, N.J. – (Associated Press) - An online gambling firm plans to buy or build a casino in Atlantic City to get a piece of the Internet wagering action planned to launch in the state this year, another sign of a revival of corporate interest in a city where gambling revenue has been falling since 2006.

MidOil USA managing partner Vincent Crandon said Friday that he plans to announce around Labor Day whether his investment firm and Web gambling company 2UP Gaming will be buying or building.

This Friday (July 26, 2013), ‘Dateline’ on NBC will feature a segment on South Carolina bookie Brett Parker entitled “Mystery at Ascot Estates”.

The show, which will air at 9 pm EST, features interviews with friends and associates of Parker’s wife, Tammy Jo Parker.  Brett is currently serving a life sentence for shooting to death Tammy Jo and a sports betting clerk, Bryan Capnerhurst.

Ohio Man Claims Casino Caused Robbery of $35K by Paying Him in Cash

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Associated Press) — A man who was robbed at home of more than $35,000 in gambling winnings sued the Ohio casino where he won the money, arguing a cashier should have issued him a check instead of cash.

Police said 29-year-old David Hayes was robbed at gunpoint of the stack of $100 bills when two armed men woke him at home hours after he left the Hollywood Casino Columbus with his winnings Oct. 21.

Hayes filed suit against the casino's operator, contending that he asked for a check when he cashed out his blackjack winnings but was given cash instead.
