Jagajeet Chiba: Betfair Marketing Campaign Would be a Tough Sell in States

Jagajeet Chiba discusses Betfair’s latest marketing blitz.  His views and opinion do not necessarily reflect that of Gambling911.com Management.

While Betfair has some presence in the United States through its horse racing arm (this form of online betting is deemed “legal” under the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act), much of its betting exchange remains off limits to U.S. residents. That is the least of their worries.

Former New Jersey Governor Endorses Sports Betting

"The Hanson report commissioned by Christie to consider an overall plan for the state's gaming business does not deal with sports betting. There is a huge market for sports betting; a lot of money is bet illegally on the Super Bowl alone. It would appear that public opposition to legalization is fading and obstacles can be overcome. The activity is already there, and it is pure logic that we take advantage. State Sen Ray Lesniak, D-Union, may lead the way."

William Hill “Worst Ever Royal Ascot” Blamed for Poor Profit Margins

William Hill continues to hint at moving its telephone business offshore following dismal results over the past year compared to its online arm.

"Poor horse racing results" led to a 33% fall in net telephone revenue, with a statement from Hills explicitly pointing out: "The board has previously noted the challenge of competing with UK betting exchanges and Irish offshore telebetting operators, all of whom have benefited from significant tax and cost advantages over UK bookmakers. The situation is under active review."
