Purple Lounge Casino, Poker Customers Likely Screwed

Troubled Purple Lounge Casino and Poker is now in liquidation with customers not likely to see any of their funds returned.

Parent company, Media Corp PLC announced the liquidation on Thursday with all staff being laid off.  Media Corp Chairman Phil Jackson claims Purple Lounge had “historical operational and financial failings”.

PartyPoker Investing US$50m Over the Next Two Years in Social Media Site

PartyPoker parent company bwin.party has announced plans to invest US$50m over the past two years in a standalone social media website.

The social gaming unit, called Win, will be headed up by former Mytopia and Amuso CEO Barak Rabinowitz, it was revealed on Wednesday.

Assets from social gaming companies Velasco Services and Orneon Limited have already been acquired by Party to “accelerate our market entry”.

Payback: Spain Wants Back Taxes From Online Poker Operators

In order to obtain an Internet gambling and poker license in the country of Spain, operators must pay back taxes on the business taken in from Spanish citizens over past years.  The Spanish Government began regulating the sector this year.

Illinois Passes Gambling Expansion Bill: Major Ethical Shortcomings, Claims Governor

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- (Associated Press) - - Gov. Pat Quinn is blasting the Illinois House for passing a gambling expansion bill he says has "major ethical shortcomings."

Quinn said Wednesday the bill passed by a 69-47 vote does not provide the Illinois Gaming Board with "sufficient time to make critical licensing and regulatory decisions." He says the bill also fails to ensure clear oversight of the proposed Chicago casino.

Quinn said that as long as he is governor, he will not support a gambling bill that "falls well short of protecting the people of Illinois."

13 Busted in New Jersey for Running Internet Gambling Website: $2.2 Billion in Bets

Thirteen alleged members of the Genovese crime family have been charged with federal racketeering in a case connected to Internet gambling.  The individuals were rounded up on Wednesday (May 23, 2012), including an 80-year-old man.

Online Gambling Sector Marks One Year Anniversary of 'Blue Monday'

Today, May 23, 2012, is the one-year anniversary of “Blue Monday”, the day in which the US Attorney’s Office in Baltimore seized nearly a dozen online gambling domain names following a two-year sting operation. 

The US Attorney’s Office set up a phony payment processor as part of its investigation and attempted to lure i-Gaming execs operating in other foreign jurisdictions to Guam, a US territory, where arrests could be made.  That never happened.

One company, BetED.com, ultimately shut down.  Hundreds of thousands of dollars were also seized from BetED.

Las Vegas Probe Following Reports of Underage Gambling by Whitney Houston Daughter

Nevada authorities were looking into reports that the daughter of the late recording artist, Whitney Houston, gambled while at a Las Vegas casino.  Bobbi Kristina Brown is 19-years-old and underage, according to Nevada state law. 

TMZ.com posted the video that appears to show Brown sitting at a slot machine at the MGM Grand Hotel.  (See Video Here)

Bellagio Botched Robbery: Bandit Loses Wig, Casino Chips

LAS VEGAS — (Associated Press) - A hapless bandit lost his wig, sunglasses and $115,000 worth of casino chips when security wrestled him to the floor during a botched weekend heist at a posh Vegas Strip resort, authorities said Monday.

Two men attempted to rob the Bellagio on Saturday night by spraying a blackjack dealer and others with a caustic eye-burning chemical, police said.

With the distraction in the air, Michael Q. Belton snatched up nearly two dozen high-value chips and took off for the door, according to a police report.

Atlantic City Casino Stabbing Leaves Tourist Officials Stunned

The stabbing deaths of two female Canadian tourists outside the Bally’s Atlantic City casino hotel has left tourist officials stunned and dismayed Monday.

Pennsylvania Leads U.S. in Gaming With Tax Windfall

(Bloomberg News) - - Ralph Attarian, a 47-year-old caddy, puffed cigarettes as he played a penny slot machine in Philadelphia’s SugarHouse Casino, adding to the pot of money that has helped Pennsylvania reap more tax revenue from gambling than any state for three years running.

“I just come here to kill some time,” he said one weekday morning as he tried his luck 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) from the Las Vegas Strip. Players such as Attarian are proving a windfall for Pennsylvania, which is using the revenue to diversify its tax base and ease property levies.

Lesniak Says Christie Back on Board Regarding Internet Gambling: June 30 Target Date

State Sen. Ray Lesniak, D-Union, said that he believes that Governor Christie is “back on board” regarding online gaming, and predicted that the Legislature would pass a bill by the end of the session on June 30.  This was according to John Brennan of NorthJersey.com.

U.S. Internet Gambling Legislative Activity Reaches Historic High

According to U.S. Internet Gambling Regulatory Tracker, a new legislative monitoring service from GamblingCompliance Ltd., nine states have taken up legislation authorizing or prohibiting some combination of Internet poker and casino gaming in 2012, up from seven states in 2011.

Bwin.Party Sales Inch Upwards

LONDON - (Reuters) - Bwin.party digital, the world's largest listed online gaming company, said first-quarter revenue edged up and that it expects to be offered a licence to offer online gambling in Germany soon.

The company, which was formed by the merger of Austria's Bwin and PartyGaming last year, on Wednesday said revenue rose 1 percent to 215.9 million euros ($275.8 million) in the three months to the end of March as growth in casino and gaming offset weakness at its poker and bingo businesses. It added that April trade was in line with last year.
