Online Poker Cheating Explored As Part Of BBC Investigation

 

The BBC this past weekend featured an in depth investigation into the world of online poker cheating and collusion.  This past summer, the world’s largest online poker room, PokerStars.com, found itself at the center of a firestorm involving “Chinese collusion”, resulting in some 25,000 of its customers being compensated to the tune of $2.1 million.

England See 40 Percent Rise in Online Gambling Activity Past Year

 

The Brits love to gamble and this is evident in the dramatic increase in online gambling activity over the past year with a rise of 40 percent.

A study conducted by the Nielsen Group reveals that an additional 3.2 million people logged onto Internet gambling websites during the last year compared to 2.2 million who accessed social media websites such as Facebook and its rivals. 

Online poker sites were among the most successful, with PartyPoker registering an additional 870,000 visitors last year, up 174 percent.

Harrah’s Entertainment Paid Over $1 Mil To Support Online Poker Bill

 

Once heavily opposed to legalized online poker, Harrah’s Entertainment is revealed to have spent over $1 million lobbying in favor of a bill authored by Congressman Barney Frank that would essentially license Internet poker rooms in the United States.  And this amount, in support of HR 2267, was spent in the second quarter alone.  A similar amount was paid in the first quarter.

Tatjana Pasalic Talks Durrrr Challenge: Tom Dwan Says Delay Likely

 

A lot of hype has surrounded the so-called Durrrr Challenge, a high stakes series of online poker games originated by Tom Durrrr Dwan.  Our friend Tatjana Pasalic was talking about it with Dwan at this week’s PartyPoker World Open 6 where the young New Jersey native busted out pretty early.  Because of the Open, not much action has taken place these last couple of days with the challenge.

Dwan explains:  “I laid 3/1 on a side bet of $1.5 million to $500K as long as we played 50,000 hands of 200 to 400 or higher no limit.”

Joran van der Sloot Admits Extortion

 

Dutchman Joran van der Sloot has reportedly admitted to extortion, a Netherlands paper said on Monday.

Van der Sloot, who is awaiting trial in Lima, Peru for the murder of college student Stephany Flores while attending the Latin American Poker Tour, is said to have admitted to extorting money from the family of Natalee Holloway during an interview with the Telegraph.  He is the primary suspect in her 2005 disappearance from Aruba.

PokerStars.It Italian Online Poker Site Debuts At Number 7

 

The online poker monitoring website PokerScout.com has released its latest numbers and the inclusion of PokerStars.It Italian card room in the number 7 position of top worldwide rooms in terms of “real cash” players.  The site claimed to have 70248 playing at press time Monday night, which would be pretty amazing if true.  That would be more than PartyPoker’s overall traffic worldwide.  Party is currently the number three largest online poker network.
