Adelson Says Online Gambling ‘Fool’s Gold’: Wants New Federal Prohibition

One of the few casino giants opposed to legalized online gambling called the prospect of legalization “fool’s gold”.

Billionaire Sheldon Adelson, in an opinion piece on the Forbes.com website,  says he “opposes the proliferation of online gambling”.

Federal Online Gambling Bill Introduced in US by Congressman Peter King

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A Republican congressman on Thursday introduced legislation to allow online gambling on a federal level, which he says will give consumers more uniformity than legalizing it on a state-by-state basis.

The move by Representative Peter King of New York follows industry lobbying for federal legislation to provide a larger, more liquid market across state lines, attracting more gamblers.

Indecisiveness, Exclusion Prevented Federal Online Gambling Bill From Passing

Former Nevada Congressman Jon Porter blamed the casino industry’s indecisiveness for the failure to pass federal legalization of online gambling over the past few years.

Porter, who is now a lobbyist for the industry, also said that gaming interests refused to recognize the importance of Tribal casino groups and state lotteries.

Anonymous payment solutions company, Liberty Reserve, has been shut down by federal authorities out of the Southern District of New York on Tuesday.

The indictment alleges Liberty Reserve, a company incorporated in Costa Rica, has for years operated as one of the world’s largest digital currencies.  Law enforcement refers to the company as a “PayPal for criminals” that allegedly laundered money to the tune of $6 billion over the past 7 years.

Canadian Government Caught Off Guard by Bitcoin Emergence

OTTAWA – (Canadian Press) - Canadians buying and selling an emerging digital currency are running afoul of established banks and operating in uncharted territory for financial regulators.

"The Canadian government doesn't know what a Bitcoin is, doesn't recognize the Bitcoin, and there's no regulatory agency that knows what a Bitcoin is," said Joseph David, the owner of VirtEx.

His Calgary-based website lets Canadians trade Bitcoins through an online market similar to a stock exchange. David said the two-year-old company facilitated $15 million in transactions this year.

B3W Group to Fix Security Flaw in Online Poker Software

B3W Group, based out of Malta, has announced it plans this week to fix a vulnerability recently discovered by two security experts.  The company produces turnkey online casino and poker solutions. 

B3W's software updates itself over an insecure HTTP connection. Updated files are stored without digital signatures, and ".exe" files are not verified before installation. They also found issues with how B3W's software stores passwords on a person's computer.
