APPT Macau and Macau Poker Cup Schedules Season 8 Unveiled

ONCHAN, Isle of Man –The Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) has announced the Season 8 schedules for APPT Macau and the 21st edition of the Macau Poker Cup where both tournaments will be held at the ‘PokerStars LIVE Macau’ poker room.

The APPT returns to Asia’s gaming capital of Macau and the schedule will include twelve Official Asia Player of the Year events from the May 14-25, 2014.

The 12-day poker festival features the HK $25,000 (~USD $3,200) Main Event which runs from the 21st to 25th of May.

O'Reilly vs. Stossel: A Debate Over Gambling (Video)

Bill O'Reilly debated John Stossel on the subject of gambling Tuesday night.  John Stossel, a Libertarian, loves gambling and wants the Government to keep their noses out of the fun.

“My poker game with friends would be a crime in half the states,” Stossel noted in his report that led up to the debate.

The Faux Federalism of Chaffetz Graham Adelson Online Gambling Ban‬ (Video)

A recently drafted bill presented in Congress last week would seek to ban online gambling but the co-authors may be a bit misguided in what they are attempting to accomplish.

As the below video demonstrates, the so-called “Restoration of America’s Wire Act”, co-authored by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), really doesn’t apply to the Wire Act.

Holland Keeps HPT Title, $80K in Florida

Daytona Beach, Florida  - Heartland Poker Tour’s stop at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club & Poker Room again attracted players from across the United States who appreciate the warm weather and well-run event.  Texas, South Carolina, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, and Massachusetts were represented at the televised Final Table. Although the final nine players hailed from seven different states, residents of the Sunshine State proved to have the home field advantage.  The only three Florida residents at the Final Table finished first, second, and third.

Daniel Piela Wins Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Kick-Off and $144,294

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Daniel Piela of Wheaton, Ill. walked away with  $144,294 after winning first place in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em $1 Million Guaranteed event that kicked-off  the 21-day Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown tournament series.  The tournament, one of sixty-two events during the series, had a buy-in of $560 and brought 1,966 entries, for a total prize pool of $1,000,000, with 200 places paid.

Police: Graham, Chaffetz Online Gambling Bill Would Lead to Increase in Crime

Last week, South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Utah Republican representative Jason Chaffetz introduced the Restoration of America’s Wire Act, which seeks to strengthen current federal online gambling prohibition.  The legislation also would prevent individual states from legalizing the activity, including those like Nevada and New Jersey that already offer real money Web gambling.

Oleksii Khoroshenin of the Ukraine Wins EPT Vienna for €578,392

Ukraine is celebrating its first ever EPT champion with Oleksii Khoroshenin’s €578,392 win in the EPT Vienna Main Event in the stunning imperial Hofburg Palace.

Khoroshenin, 27, an EPT regular who currently lives in St Petersburg, has now jumped from #20 in the Ukraine all-time money list to #7. He made a three-way deal with runner-up Anthony Ghamrawi from Austria and German pro Marko Neumann before taking down the €5,300 tournament. It’s by far his biggest live cash and more than double his lifetime tournament winnings to date.

Adelson Right Hand Man: 'Poker Player Alliance Twitter Followers are Creepy’

Vice President of Government Relations for the Las Vegas Sands Corp., Andy Abboud, referred to Poker Player Alliance Twitter followers as “creepy” during an Internet gambling conference debate this week, as relayed by noted industry analyst Nolan Dalla.

Sure it was hostile territory at this year’s iGaming North America Conference for presumably the only man in the room who is against legalized online gambling in the US, but Dalla considered the comment a low blow.

PokerHost Moves to Equity Poker Network: Leaves Merge Gaming

Russia Placing Sanctions on Internet Gambling Sites: Mostly From UK

Russia has apparently declared war on Internet gambling.

Though the blacklist was implemented some 16 months ago, it has only expanded dramatically in recent days to include the likes of UK-based sites such as Ladbrokes and William Hill along with a number of other European online wagering firms.

This move comes as the European Union has imposed sanctions on Russia for its annexation of Crimea.

Off Message: Republicans Attack on Internet Gambling Gets in Way of 2016

(Reuters) - Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson became a major player in Republican politics in the 2012 elections, when he spent more than $90 million in an unsuccessful effort to oust Democratic President Barack Obama.

Now the 80-year-old billionaire wants something from Washington: a ban on Internet gambling, a growing industry that Adelson says could hurt the casino industry. On Wednesday, some of Adelson's allies in Congress, including South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, plan to propose legislation that would do just that.

Bill to Allow NJ Licensing of Foreign Internet Gambling Firms One Step Closer

(Associated Press) - A plan to let New Jersey casino regulators oversee foreign Internet gambling companies if they move their operations to Atlantic City has moved a step closer to approval.

A state senate wagering committee approved the bill Monday.

The measure is sponsored by Sen. Raymond Lesniak. He says many overseas gambling companies want the stamp of approval that would come from submitting to New Jersey's casino regulators, who are among the strictest in the nation.

The foreign firms wouldn't be able to take bets from anyone in the United States.

Zoltan Gal Wins Eureka Poker Tour 2014

Zoltan Gal from Hungary has won the first ever Eureka Poker Tour event held in Vienna for €208,655. The 27-year-old was the last man standing in the record-breaking event after beating Austria's Andreas Freund heads up. The pair cut a deal with €10k, the trophy and the title left to play for. Gal eventually grabbed it all meaning he scored a €208,655 payday while Freund gained a €174,655 reward. Internet gambling firms are looking for creative ways to catch up with bwin.party, which so far has dominated the airwaves and offline media throughout the New Jersey-New York-Pennsylvania region.

Whether affiliates will be enticed enough to focus on such a limited market remains to be seen.  Only those physically located in New Jersey will be able to wager with Betfair.
