Nevada, Delaware Multi-State Online Poker Compact Draws Ire of Congress

(Associated Press) - Nevada and Delaware’s recent agreement to launch the nation’s first collaborative, interstate online poker zone appears to have drawn a backlash from gambling’s opponents in Congress, who are planning to drop a bill rolling back the legal opinion underlying the recent deal.

Michigan Withdraws Rules for Charitable Games

LANSING, Mich. (Associated Press) - A Michigan agency has withdrawn proposed new rules to rein in the charitable gambling industry to consider possible changes because of opposition from some lawmakers.

The state Gaming Control Board notified a joint legislative rules committee of its decision Wednesday.

Gov. Rick Snyder's administration is hoping to crack down on "millionaire parties." The events help charities raise money but have drawn criticism as "de facto casinos" also bringing large profits to bars and poker rooms.

A judge in Gibraltar has that oil giant Chevron can move forward with a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages from PartyPoker (now Bwin.Party) co-founder Russell DeLeon in connection with his financing what the oil company says was a liability suit that ultimately turned into a racketeering conspiracy.

Bwin.Party Sees Return to Growth Ahead of World Cup: Activist Investor Watches

(Reuters) - Online gambling company Bwin.Party said this year's soccer World Cup would help it to return to growth after problems in Greece and a shift away from riskier markets cut earnings in 2013.

Bwin.Party is concentrating on fewer markets where regulations are more clear cut and is expanding in the United States as gambling rules are relaxed there.

Rival Betfair, another of a cluster of online gambling companies that have grown up over the past decade, is pursuing a similar strategy.

Phil Ivey is Not Broke: Participates in Rare Interview (Video)

Phil Ivey dismissed rumors being spread by fellow poker pro Dan Bilzerian that he is broke.

"People can say what they're going to say… I don't really feed into that. His opinion is his opinion… He really doesn't know my financial status,” Ivey said during a rare interview conducted by Bluff Europe.

“Phil Ivey just went broke,” Bilzerian told CardPlayer.com in a January interview.

New Jersey Governor Christie Backs Away From Online Gambling Forecast

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s aggressive forecast for online gambling revenue was mostly seen as unattainable.  On Tuesday, the Christie Administration backed off those initial projections, relaying its concerns to a leading Democratic leader in the state.

"Given the complex connections between internet and on-site gaming, we do not break down the anticipated total collections between the two sources," state Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff wrote in a letter today to Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-Bergen).

Internet Gambling Growth Slows in New Jersey

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Associated Press) — The growth of New Jersey's Internet gambling market slowed somewhat in its third full month of operation, with the Atlantic City gambling websites posting a nearly 9 percent revenue increase in February.

The 16 online gambling sites had posted a 28 percent gain in January, to $9.5 million. In February, the online sites won $10.3 million.

Massachusetts Weighs in on Web Gambling

BOSTON — (Associated Press) - The head of the state's gambling commission suggested on Tuesday that lawmakers hold off on key decisions about Internet gambling until after the panel completes the process of awarding casino licenses in Massachusetts.

The commission convened an all-day hearing to examine the potential impact of online gambling should it be legalized in the state. Lawmakers and gambling regulators worry that it could take a bite out of revenues currently produced by the state lottery and that are expected to be generated by taxes on casinos in the future.

Poker Tournament Shot Clocks Could be Introduced Soon

The World Poker Tour has announced that it plans to introduce shot clocks to its tournaments similar to that which appear during NBA games.

The WPT began polling players at last week’s LA Poker Classic in order to determine if the shot clocks were a viable option.  80% of those asked liked the idea of a shot clock.

Neteller Returns to the US: Shares Surge Nearly 3 Percent

Online payment solutions company Neteller announced Monday that it will be relaunching services in the US.

The company was forced to flee the US market in January 2007 after two of its founders were charged with violating anti-gambling laws.  The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed just two months prior to the highly publicized arrests, with Gambling911.com breaking that news story.

Lindsey Graham Set to Introduce Bill Banning All Forms of Online Gambling

South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham is on the cusp of introducing a bill that would strengthen the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006 and fully ban all forms of online gambling including poker.

While UIGEA essentially does just that, the US Justice Department interpretation of the law opened the door for state-by-state legislation.  Graham wants no part of it.
