Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Entries Exceed Guarantee

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - The televised WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship, which kicked off April 10 and continues through April 16 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, has drawn 1,795 entries, surpassing the $5 million guarantee and generating a $5,788,875 prize pool – the largest ever for a $3,500 buy-in tournament.  First place will award $1,081,184 plus the coveted WPT Championship trophy.  The televised Championship Final Table will take place at Hard Rock Live on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m.

Poker Pro Phil Ivey Sued by Borgata for Nearly $10 Mil Over Playing Card Scam

Poker pro Phil Ivey is being used by Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel and Casino over an alleged playing card scam.

The suit is asking for $9.8 million claiming fraudulent winnings during a series of visits to the casino in 2012.

Borgata Using High Tech Chips at Spring Open in Wake of Scandal

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Associated Press) — A cheating scandal at a casino poker tournament has led to new security measures, including chips that are more intricate, have more colors and include an authentication element that can be checked under ultraviolet light.

The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa told The Associated Press it was using new chips for its Spring Open poker tournament that began Tuesday.

Playtech Gets ‘Buy’ Rating From 12 Agencies

Online gambling software firm Playtech has received a “buy” rating from 12 different agencies that cover the stock.

From the MidEast Times:

Five equities research analysts have rated the stock with a hold recommendation and seven have given a buy recommendation to the company. The average 1-year target price among brokers that have updated their coverage on the stock in the last year is GBX 816.10 ($13.53).

Mississippi to Study Online Gambling Pros and Cons

(Associated Press) - Mississippi's chief gambling regulator is leading a group that will gather data on how Internet gambling and sports betting are working other states.

Allen Godfrey, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, is chairman of the task force.

State Rep. Richard Bennett, a Long Beach Republican and chairman of the House Gaming Committee, asked Godfrey to take the job and provide an unbiased look at the pros and cons of Internet gambling and sports betting.

WSOP Circuit National Championship 2014 to be Held at Bally’s Atlantic City

The WSOP Circuit National Championship 2014 will be held at Bally’s in Atlantic City from May 22-24 it was announced this week.  This is the 10th season of the circuit.

With a total of 100 players eligible for qualification, the World Series of Poker today announces how the additional six remaining at-large seats will be awarded.

In May, WSOP.com websites in both Nevada and New Jersey will host an online freeroll tournament in their respective states, where the winner of each tournament will automatically qualify (2 seats total).

United Chicago-Atlantic City Flights Take Off: Online Gambling Can Benefit

Great news for Atlantic City as New Jersey’s seaside gambling Mecca will now have a direct link to Chicago.  United Airlines began offering direct flights between the USA’s second largest city and Atlantic City this week.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently took over Atlantic City’s under-utilized airport and, in doing so, convinced the 3rd largest airline in the US to start offering flights there.  In addition to the daily flight to and from Chicago, United will offer a round trip flight to and from Houston.

Missouri Bill Looks to Reel in High Stakes Gamblers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Associated Press) - High stakes gamblers could find Missouri more alluring if legislation passed by the Senate becomes law.

A bill approved Wednesday would let Missouri casinos extend a line of credit gamblers willing to put up at least $10,000.

Supporters said the bill would free big bettors from having to carry large quantities of cash to casinos.

Casino officials also hope to attract more high rollers from other states, like professional athletes who may be traveling to Missouri to play in a game.
