It's no secret that tennis legend Rafa Nadal took up poker in 2012 and became a PokerStars ambassador. It's no secret that he got hurt and had to spend months in recovery. It's no secret he got better and has spent the past eight months racking up title after title.

Word is in today that Rafa is planning to show up and play an event at the EPT Prague festival.

Back in January, Rafa won his first poker tournament.  Now, Rafa is looking to put his live poker skills to use.

Poker Icon Matt Savage Hospitalized: Nearly Crippled by Waterslide Head Injury

Poker personality Matt Savage is hoping to avoid paralysis by undergoing urgent cervical stenosis surgery Wednesday morning.

Savage suffered hit his head on a waterslide and for the past few weeks he started to feel pain in his back and chest along with numbness in his arm, according to his Facebook page.

Chow Defeats Record Field at Majestic Star

Gary, IN – Bob Chow was outnumbered at Monday’s Heartland Poker Tour Final Table at Majestic Star Casino Hotel in Gary, Indiana. Of the nine players who ascended to the top of the 520-player field, the 53-year-old from Schaumberg, Illinois was the only pro player.

InsuredPlay.com to Shut Down

An all-in equity insurance product for online cash games, InsuredPlay.com, will no longer be available as the site is slated to shut down after only 16 months in business.

All player balances remain safe, and everyone will be repaid their balances in full, the company assures but withdrawal requests must take place by September 30.

A statement from the site claimed that “a number of difficulties that we have not been able to overcome” have led to the shutdown.

Poker Pro Kevin Boudreau Goes to Rehab After Suffering Brain Hemorrhage During WSOP

His early prognosis was hard for many to bear but there is great news regarding the condition of 25-year-old Kevin Boudreau.  He is on his way to rehab.

Boudreau was hospitalized two months ago in Las Vegas after severe bleeding occurred in his brain.  It was determined he had suffered a brain hemorrhage while on a dinner break at this year’s World Series of Poker.

Politician, Poker Player Stuart Wheeler Implies Women Need to Go Back to the Kitchen

UKIP Treasurer Stuart Wheeler has come under fire for suggesting that women are not competitive enough and, as such, don’t have much of a place in the board room.

Women's failure to beat men at chess, bridge and poker means that companies should not be forced to give them seats on boards, Wheeler suggests.

“I would just like to challenge the idea that it is necessary to have a lot of women or a particular number on a board.

Virginia Illegal Poker Game Raided

NORFOLK, Va. (Associated Press) — Four Norfolk men are charged with running an illegal high-stakes poker game out of a house in a subdivision along the Elizabeth River.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that the investigation started with a tip last December and led to arrests earlier this month.

According to police, the games of Texas Hold 'em were conducted three nights a week. The minimum buy-in was $100, and the operation raked in about $2,000 a night.

New Season 10 European Poker Tour Changes Include New High Roller Scheduling

It was announced this week that there will be changes to Season 10 of the European Poker Tour that include extended later registration, high-roller scheduling, additional non-no-limit hold'em events, and payouts.

PokerStars Live Events Specialist Neil Johnson also confirmed that late registrations for high roller events will be extended to the beginning of the second day.

2 NYC Men Who Ran Illegal Poker Games Tied to Art Gallery

Two men have pleaded guilty to illegally operating high-stakes New York City poker games with pots regularly reaching tens of thousands of dollars.

Prosecutors say Kirill Rapoport pleaded guilty Friday to conducting an illegal poker game, and William Barbalat pleaded guilty Wednesday to traveling in interstate commerce in aid of operating an illegal poker game.

Full Tilt Poker Payout Claims to be Open September 16

A claims administrator for the US Government has designated September 16 as a day to open up claims for those owed monies by Full Tilt Poker. 

As reported by Gambling911.com two days ago, The Garden City Group issued this statement to PokerFuse.com Wednesday:  “The claims process will begin shortly. At this time we cannot provide a specific date, but expect to be able to provide a launch date by the end of this week."

Sands Head Sheldon Adelson Furious With MGM, Caesar’s Driving Vegas Room Rates Down

During a quarterly earnings conference call this week, Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson blasted MGM and Caesar's Entertainment for driving down hotel room rates on the Strip and, thus, cutting into his own company's profit margins.

Adelson accused both casinos of conducting business out of desperation due to some excessive debt. 

Caesars owes some $23.7 billion while MGM Resorts is in a $13.1 billion hole.

Lesniak Gung Ho Over Nevada-New Jersey Online Gambling Compact

New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak would embrace a compact between his state and Nevada to combine their online gambling markets.

Both currently permit gambling on the Web within their own borders.  Lesniak was among the chief legislators behind New Jersey’s online gambling measure.

“Combining our markets would be a good idea,” said Ray Lesniak in an interview with CardPlayer.com. “I think we could make it work.”

Indicted Online Poker Processor Chad Elie Tells All (Video)

One of the individuals charged with processing payments for online poker site Full Tilt Poker and two other rooms claims to have witnessed inappropriate funds transfers between Mark Shurtleff, John Swallow and indicted businessman Jeremy Johnson. 

Elie, who was named as part of a series of sweeping indictments in April of 2011 and served five months prison time for bank fraud, sat down with the Salt Lake City Weekly to discuss the matter.

Matchbook.com CEO Says Daniel Negreanu a ‘Poor Brand Ambassador’ for Poker

iGaming.org had a chance to sit down with sports betting exchange Matchbook.com CEO Andrew Pantling, who had a few choice words to say about poker pro Daniel Negreanu.

Pantling, a poker pro himself, drew the ire of Negreanu during last spring’s EPT Grand Final Main Event.  Pantling won that event and the €800,000 that came with it. Negreanu, who finished 5th, later stated he was not impressed with Pantling’s game.

Scottish poker payer Alan Gold has won the 2013 Full Tilt Poker UKIPT Galway Main Event and the €187,494 that comes with it.  This is Gold’s biggest win on the live poker circuit.

Gold entered the final table as chip leader and maintained that dominating lead throughout.

The Full Tilt Poker Galway Festival – UKIPT Main Event – Final Table for 2013 has been set with some unfamiliar names.

Christy Morkan – Ireland’s own has been primarily a recreational player up to this point.

As much as we would love to have Christy be a woman at the final table, Christy is a man and somewhat of a local legend in fact.  Morkan has played live for 10 years and does not play online.  He has 695,000 chips to kick off the final table.
