More Than $1.9 Million Won in the First Two Days of FTOPS XXIII

Onchan, Isle of Man –Full Tilt Poker’s flagship tournament series FTOPS XXIII kicked off on Sunday and over $1.9 million has been won in just two days.

Highlights included FTOPS Event #1 – a No Limit Hold’em tournament that easily surpassed its $500,000 guarantee. The tournament attracted 3,503 entrants, creating a prize pool of $700,600; kid_bramm came out on top to capture $129,611 and a first major title at Full Tilt Poker.

Lavery: ‘Game of Skill’ Argument was Lie Perpetrated by Online Poker Companies

“The ‘game of skill’ argument to support the legality of poker was a lie perpetrated by Online Poker companies to deceive consumers into depositing money on their gambling Internet sites,” said Chicago-based Gambling Law attorney Mark Lavery in an interview with Forbes.com Tuesday.

PPA Disappointed Over Court Reserving Ruling in U.S. vs. DiiCristina

John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the leading poker grassroots advocacy group with more than one million members nationwide, today issued the following statement regarding the unfortunate decision by the 2nd Circuit Court reversing a lower court’s ruling in U.S. v. Lawrence DiCristina in 2012 that found poker is indeed a game of skill and thus not gambling and not illegal under the Illegal Gambling Business Act (IGBA).

Bwin.party Snatches Up PokerStars Exec Jeffrey Haas

eGaming Review Magazine is reporting that Bwin.party Head of Online Poker Chris Welch will be leaving next month and that his replacement is Jeffrey Haas, an executive from PokerStars, the world’s largest real money Web poker firm.

PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Announces Mega Path Satellites

ONCHAN, Isle of Man –The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) today announced the start of the popular Mega Path satellites for the PCA 2014 festival.

The PCA Mega Path satellites run several times a day and offer PokerStars players the chance to win a Main Event prize package worth $15,560 for as little as 10 Frequent Player Points (FPPs). M Resort Poker Room Closes in Vegas

The M Resort, operated by Penn National, closed its poker room over the weekend after struggling against stiff completion.

The establishment recently hosted the Hollywood Poker Open.

According to USPoker.com, the M Resort typically only hosted one or two cash games on Saturday nights.

Player comps can be redeemed using the iMagine Rewards card anywhere at the resort.

Court Tosses Out Cardroom International LLC v. Mark Scheinberg, et al. Suit

PokerNews.com is reporting that Judge Elizabeth White, of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, “has tossed a seemingly spurious – albeit markedly long-lived – lawsuit brought by Cardroom International, LLC, with an array of defendants including Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, Pocket Kings, Ltd., Andy Bloch and Erik Seidel.”

Indeed, Cardroom’s claims did appear a bit over the top.

What a Crock: Thousands of Affiliate Websites Taken Down by HostGator Outage

Online gambling affiliates and other websites were severely impacted by a massive outage at hosting companies HostGator, BlueHost and HostMonster.

All sites on these respective companies servers have effectively been taken offline.

Mashable.com reports that each of the hosting services are part of the Endurance International Group and that the outage appears to be related to server maintenance at the Provo, Utah, data center.

Nevada Gaming Revenue Down Nearly 5 Percent in June

CARSON CITY, Nev. — (Associated Press) - State officials say Nevada gambling revenues went down 4.8 percent in June compared with a year earlier.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board released statistics Friday showing casinos won $792 million in June, down from $833 million in June 2012.

Las Vegas Strip winnings of $435 million were down 10 percent year-over-year.

But the situation was the opposite a little further down the road: Downtown Las Vegas winnings of $37 million were up 9 percent.

Number of Firms Applying for Online Gambling License in NJ Up to 37

A total of 37 online gambling companies have applied to serve the Garden State and its nearly 9 million people.

The New Jersey state Gaming Enforcement Division says it received the applications by Monday's deadline for initial consideration, a major milestone in Atlantic City's development of online betting.

Revel Atlantic City Poker Room to Shut Down in Next Two Weeks

The financially strapped Revel Casino in Atlantic City is ready to close its poker room.

John Brennan of the Bergen Record tweeted Monday:

Sources: Revel AC poker room will close in 2 weeks. Canceling all tournaments. Bad beat jackpots to be paid.

The Revel Casino is expected to shut its poker room down on August 15 though the closure could actually happen sooner.

MicroMillions 5 Main Event Awards Record First Prize

Lithuanian player ‘stygher’ won the MicroMillions 5 $22 NL Hold’em Main Event yesterday, topping a field of 59,213 players to win the first prize of $160,726.14. It is the biggest individual prize for a MicroMillions champion, beating the previous record of $157,218.68, which was won by ‘SoyDelGlobo’ in the MicroMillions II Main Event.

‘Ray Donovan’ Producer Bryan Zuriff Pleads Guilty in Sports Betting Case

A Hollywood producer has pleaded guilty in New York for his role in a high-stakes sports betting business run by an organized-crime enterprise.

Bryan Zuriff is executive producer of the Showtime series Ray Donovan. He pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to accepting a financial instrument in connection with unlawful Internet gambling.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (buh-RAH’-ruh) announced the plea Friday, saying Zuriff operated an illegal gambling enterprise in Los Angeles and helped run one in New York.
